Introduced by Indian Railways on March 6 in 1977, the Coromandel Express runs at a speed of 130 km/hr and covers a distance of 1659 kms between Shalimar railway station, West Bengal, and Chennai Central railway station, Tamil Nadu in 25 hrs and 30 minutes.05-Jun-2023
Coromondal exp started with diesel engine I'n 1977. Chennai Howrah mail is running in 1937 itself as said by the father who studied in history book of my grand father.
Great ,there was one more train from hwh to Chennai , named as Janta express Now discontinued. Had opportunity to travel in that train long ago ( 1973 perhaps) in First class Bsb to hwh in 6 up Punjab mail ,HWH to mas in janta express.Mail my dad could not get berth. My father worked Indian railways( DLW)
Howrah Chennai Jonathan express destination changed to Tirupati when coromondal express is introduced and diverted via Bhinavaram when Guage conversion completed in late 1970s. After HWH yesvantpur express frequency increased to daily its now Tirupati Puri. The number and timings are almost same from the past 60 years 79/80.

One year,or to be precise 366 days for tragic incident of bahanaga bazar,June 2nd 2023,the king of SER had fallen,I hope deceased souls of innocent passengers may got rest,as a railfan I don't want to see day like that again 🌹🌹🌹 REST IN PEACE 🌹🌹🌹
