Zone and Chakradharpur Division were informed of the incident for compensation and further action. Bera's family arrived in Tatanagar late in the evening and his son, Krishnanendu Bera, filed a case with the Tatanagar Railway Police Station. The GRP will send the deceased's body to Nandigram, West Bengal, after an autopsy. This is the second such incident in five months; in September 2023, another employee, N.K. Shekhar, died after being hit by an engine. Three years ago, Vinod Mahato died when an engine wheel fell on him due to a crane ceiling collapse. Bera was employed on December 28, 2023, after a court ordered the South Eastern Railway Zone to provide him a job in lieu of land acquired by the railway. He had not yet received his ID card. The Railway OBC Association's General Secretary, Krishna Mohan, demanded a high-level investigation and alleged that Bera was put on shunting duty without proper training. The Senior DEE, Vinod Kumar, however, stated that all loco shed employees perform various tasks and denied any negligence in duty allocation. Other unions are also questioning the circumstances leading to the worker's death.
