In Tamilnadu, there are 31 districts apart from Chennai. Out of this, 18 districts (Coimbatore, Dindigul, Erode, Kanchipuram, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Nagapattinam, The Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Tiruvarur, Vellore and Viluppuram) have direct trains (in some cases more than 1 daily) connecting their district capital and/ or other major towns to Chennai on daily basis. There are few weekly trains as well. For another 8 districts (Virudhunagar, Karur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Tiruppur and Namakkal), you have lot of passing trains originating from other locations within TN as well as from Kerala to Chennai. 2 district HQs - Dharmapuri and Thiruvannamalai have railway line but no trains to Chennai are . Theni, Krishnagiri and Perambalur have no rly line.
Compare this with Karnataka catered by your favourite SWR. Out of 28 districts in Karnataka (excl Bengaluru), only 12 districts (Bagalkot , Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru and Mysuru) have daily trains to Bengaluru. 15 districts (Belagavi, Ballari, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Gadag, Haveri, Hassan, Koppal, Kalaburgi,Mandya, Vijayapura, Raichur, Ramanagara, Udupi and Yadgir) have only 1 or 2 or 3 passing trains originating from other states (like SUR/ KOP/ CSTM/HYB/ NDLS/ CAN etc), which are of no use to those residing in those towns. Kodagu does not have railwa line.
Please compare yourself. Which is better? Having plenty of express trains passing through towns round the clock or 3 passenger trains per day covering only one line (SBC-UBL). Many districts have rly lines but no trains.
If you are so particular about passener trains for poor, please ask them, but don't ask 'in line with SWR'. If you do so, one dozen night trains to Chennai will vanish and you will have 2 or 3 passenger trains for the entire state.
Kindly stop having a feeling that SWR is better. It is the worst zone as far as connectivity to own territory is concerned.
