had been in Bhopal for a couple of days for some urgent work . I was accompanied with my dad , we had stayed in a hotel near the railway station . For the return journey to Patna I had successfully booked a tatkal ticket in 11071 from Bhopal to Varanasi in AC 3 tier (though I had plans to deboard at Allahabad to catch 12149 Pune Patna Exp) and a sleeper class ticket from Allahabad to Patna in 12149 on 18th June . All things were going fine , but at 12:00 hrs I smelled something bad is going to happen . I was at Bhopal Jn just for railfanning . And the suddenly came Pushpak Exp from Itarsi end and the announcement said 12533 Lucknow Mumbai Pushpak Exp has arrived on Pf 3 . Totally surprised . I asked one passenger about where the train was going , he said the train is going to Mumbai and had returned from Obaidullagunj station and will take a different route . Then an announcement was made “ Itarsi RRI me bheeshan aag ke karan 12172 Haridwar Lokmanyatilak AC Exp ab parivartit marg Ujjain , Nagda , Ratlam hokar Lomanyatilak ko jayegi , Yatriyon ke is asuvidha ke liye hume khed hai “ . FIRE AT ITARSI RRI –this blew my mind , I hoped everything was ok till my tonight’s journey . Meanwhile 12172 departed after loco reversal and 12628 Karnatka Exp too returned from some station in BPL ET sec and arrived Bhopal Jn. I returned to my hotel and turned on the TV , The fire at ET RRI was really massive and has destroyed the whole signalling system , there was also a news of diversion and cancellation of many trains . Meanwhile I checked the running status of my train on NTES , it showed that 11071 had departed LTT right time at 12:40 and was not diverted , this was a sigh of relief for me but I didn’t knew that a major problem is still to come . At 15:00 hrs I got a press release from WCR which was posted at IRI that 11071 will be diverted via Jalgaon – Nagda – Nishatpura – Bina i.e it wont touch Bhopal Jn [/blog/post/1515482|Press Release] At 20:30 , while checking NTES again I got another shock , The NTES displayed 11071 has arrived Bhusaval at 20:22 delayed by 1 hr 12 mins and has been diverted via Jalgaon - Surat - Ujjain – Bhopal and will arrive Bhopal Jn at 08:30 next morning instead of its schedule time 02:35 . Very nice narration......really it was hell of a time for railways during that period.....the whole system was crashed for weeks.....but you were lucky enough to catch that train since it was not diverted. ....
In 1990s, the per unit cost of electricity was much higher comparatively than diesel which was much lower in rates. This was due to the fact that electricity production was much lesser than demand resulting in high rates while cars, trucks etc were very low resulting in less demand for crude oil and lesser rates. Today situation is very reverse. Due to cut throat competition among companies and latest tech available, the per km rate of electrification has reduced to half in past ten fifteen years while the rate of crude oil is increasing day by day due to high growth of transports and related industries. At the same time better learning of electric transmission losses and proper management of traction stations, improved and high efficiency locos are saving much electricity. Due to all above factors, all those sections having 60- 70℅ saturation are economical if they are electric traction. Rest section may be not economical instantly but when traffic will increase and when rates of electricity will further reduce after more use of solar and other renewable sources, than they will also become useful. Anyways, kya koi IRI member hai jo IR pe believe nahi karta when it gave statement, "IR will save 14000 Crores Rs in 10 years by moving from diesel traction to electric traction and saving high costs on diesel"
First of all I did not mention about Chennai to Bangalore in my any of the statements. I only mentioned Mumbai-Bangalore,Chennai and Hyderabad. So for your knowledge trains coming from Mumbai to Chennai go via Guntakal and not Bangalore. What will you say about trains in UP section which get late by 5-7 hours. I say priority is to Double and Electrify Delhi-Guwahati which includes UP section which is neglected from years in Railway development during UPA rule when most of their railway ministers like Lallu from Bihar,Mamata Banerjee from WB, they thought only about adding trains but never thought of Facilities to Passengers, Amenities in trains and never ever thought of doubling lines in UP and Bihar. Doubling should be the first priority and Electrification next. Itarsi to Allahabad route will also get fully electrified by 2018. Tiruppur from past 20 years and it is electrified. For me the railways should electrify these routes 1.Mumbai-Delhi via Ahmedabad,Abu Road,Ajmer,Jaipur. 2 Delhi to Guwahati (all the routes ) 3.Mumbai to Mysore via Bangalore 4.Chennai to Hyderabad. 5.Bangalore to Hyderabad (All routes) 6.Howrah to Guwahati. 7.All the existing routes which are under electrification process and all the routes for which tenders are out. I think Electrification on main routes where premium trains like Shatabdi,Rajdhani,Duronto run should be electrified. Konkan Railways is exception. You should also know that Indian Railways have stopped the production of WAP 4 CLASS locos and only WAP 5,7 will be produced now. So there should be no argument on Diesel and Electric because all the departments of NDA government is working fine for electrification Indian Railway is seeking funds for more power supply from Piyush Goyal. Their plan is to electrify most of the Rail Routes. And that situation of delays would be solved by solving basic issues and yes it will happen soon.
