but doesn't SWR used only AEB locos on line??? is the braking power in them too low to stop off a train as a last ditch attempt?
Kasara ghat is as steep as this, and yet it has bucket loads of trains, even if you account for 3 lines and besides no AEB locos.
that said, lack of proper safety features is scary stuff.

Same kind of pressure can be brought for NGP-VSG train also, not a big deal. Any how we have still slots open for 9 am dep from Vasco, other than Mondays and Fridays. But here the scenario is different, CR want to connect Konkan MH with Vidarbh, so they are least interested to divert this train via Miraj.

It is a big deal actually. Because, it's not just SWR alone that has to be convinced. The Railway board has been instrumental in putting restrictions on the ghat sections. The new train came up because of the train's destination being the Railway minister's home region and the need for the government to placate the politicians from AP who have been demanding for a special status for the state and a new railway zone. Several things just worked in the train's favor and it was introduced. I don't mean to be discouraging, but the new train's introduction was nothing short of a miracle. Unless the RM manages to persuade the RB once again, it is unlikely to see the ghat section opening up again. Even if it does, pretty much SCR and SR are the only zones with enough clout to force such a decision.

It's not a matter of the slot being free. In the ghat routes, it's about number of services operating per day. So, even if the operating slot is free, there might be more freights running on that day completing the quota for that day. So, it will not be possible to introduce a new train just if the slot is free. Even for the new VSG-TPTY/HYD train, SWR was complaining that it had to cancel 2 freight slots to allow the new train.

They do use AEB locos, but the fact is that if the safety features in the rolling stock fail, then there is no scope for salvaging the situation. A few years ago, there was a freight derailment ( I had come across the wagons lying beside the tracks on a hike to Dudhsagar) on the route between Castle Rock and Dudhsagar. Luckily, the wagons did not run off the edge of the hill because they just happened to derail in one of the few safer sections on the route. This is the danger that the railways are keen to avoid with passenger trains.

and Thull ghat routes are quite easily accessible as they lie close to the highway or other towns and in addition, they are built on less treacherous terrain. A quick glance at the Braganza or the Shiradi routes makes it apparent that these routes are very precariously laid, and also the main ghat sections are quite isolated. This makes track monitoring and maintenance an absolute nightmare. A lot of things have to be set up before these routes can see more traffic.

Very good elaboration, but now freights being reduced. Is it not possible to start few more trains on the route, as RM from same zone and Vidarba(NGP) being MH CM's home, can't they pressurize same way as AP did for recent train. Rather what i suspect they wanted to connect Ratnagiri region to Nagpur than short route.

Manmad has clockroom as far as I remember. Better get down at MMR. U can visit Gurudwara there and have Langar if u r visiting at meal timings. Its nice place.
another suggestion. If ur train arrives bang on time at MMR, then better to catch Marathwada Exp instead of Janshatabdi..u will reach earlier at AWB..!

Thank You for suggesting the Gurudwara. I would love to visit it.
I am not looking at Marathwada Exp as I will be traveling in a long distance train, so chances are it will be late by at least 1/2 hours. So Jan Shatabdi is a safe bet.

रेल्वेच्या भुसावळ विभागाचे व्यवस्थापक (डीआरएम) सुधीरकुमार गुप्ता यांनी मागील वर्षी याच दिवशी पत्रकार परिषदेदत भुसावळ येथे दिली होती. मात्र अद्यापही या लोकलला मुहूर्त लागला नसून ती सुरू न झाल्याने लोकांमध्ये नाराजीचा सूर आहे. तसेच, ही लोकल नक्की कधी सुरू होणार याबाबत संभ्रमच आहे.
पत्रकार परिषदेत ही माह‌िती देताना मध्य रेल्वेच्या अधिकाऱ्यांनी कोणत्याही तांत्रिक बाबींची सत्यता पडताळून न घेतल्याने त्यांना हा निर्णय मागे घ्यावा लागला. ही लोकल सेवा भुसावळ-नाशिक लोकलसेवा सुरू करण्यासाठी तांत्रिक चाचपणी सुरू करण्यात आली होती. या लोकलसेवेबाबत चालक व कर्मचाऱ्यांनी मुंबईत प्रशिक्षणही देण्यात आले होते. ही लोकलसेवा कुंभमेळ्याच्या काळातच सुरू होणार होती. मात्र, एक वर्ष होऊनही ती सुरू झाली नाही. यापुढे ती सुरू होईल, असे काहीही चिन्ह दिसत नाही.
अप-डाऊन करणाऱ्यांची सोय
भुसावळ-नाशिक ही लोकलसेवा सुरू झाली असती तर भुसावळसह जळगाव, पाचोरा, चाळीसगाव, नांदगाव, मनमाड येथे थांबा घेणार होती. नाशिकसह धुळे जळगाव जिल्ह्यातील अप-डाऊन करणाऱ्या सुमारे साडेतीन हजार प्रवाशांची सोय झाली असती. ही लोकल भुसावळ येथे दाखलही झाली होती. तांत्रिक चाचणीनंतर ती प्रवाशांच्या सेवेसाठी सज्ज होईल अस आशा होती मात्र ती फोल ठरली. भुसावळ नाशिक मार्गावर ट्रॅफिक जास्त असल्याने या मार्गावर ही लोकल सुरू होऊ शकत नाही असे रेल्वेच्या अधिकाऱ्यांचे म्हणणे आहे.
