The WL moved up just 6 places in about 2 weeks. Should I book in Tatkal scheme? Coz I dont see any chances in this WL gettin CNF. Also the Tatkal has only 14 seats for SL class. How can they make the world travel in just 14 seats? I feel that there are only last minute CNFs. I checked the reservation status after 90 days and in that too it shows WL. I think these people are fooling the public. Any reservation is just WListed and then they decide whom to give CNF. Now dont answer in one of your "balancing act" answers. But, unfortunately I do have to give a moderate reply, since I am the "moderator". Who knows what's going on behind the scenes? Anything is possible. In such a populous country, everything is scarce, giving rise to unfairness. It has been observed that WL advances fast in the last couple of days before departure. It is not known why? In your case, Surat also happens to be an intermediate station, and WL movement depends on the number of tickets allocated for Surat, which is less than the usual end-to-end quota. Then of course, there is the existence of Tatkal, VIP, and other quota. It is possible that some seats are reserved for these quota till the very last minute, and then WL is advanced if these seats are not sold even in the last couple of days. I mean the railway booking system is so dynamic. There have to be cancellations as well as new bookings. But this does not seem to happen. This is true for practically all the train bookings on WL. WL gets stuck up, because it is possible, that WL is updated in batches, and not continously. Maybe the reservation technology is not sophisticated enough. But, before passing judgment, maybe we can appreciate the complexity of such a huge transport network, and the ticket volume it handles - so maybe there are some reasons we do not know of. I'm just amazed that all of this is works day after day. Indeed the number of people carried by railways would make it one of the most complex transport systems in the world. Dear Mod, Can we get berth allotment quota nos. for stations? It might be a big ask, but one can judge for oneself looking at these quota allotments and the WL status while booking whether one can make the journey or no Thanks. My ticket status is WL 28/29/30. Mar 22 01:09PM Report Abuse Your journey date is 1 month away, and the sleeper waitlist moves quite fast. That is a good thing. But you are boarding from Surat which is an intermediate station. it really depends on how many seats are allocated for Surat. so someone having real experience from Surat to Coimbatore can answer best.
