Locomotive reversals rarely happen at bigger stations with multiple locomotives at their disposal in their trip sheds. The locomotive is simply changed. The rake arrives, the oncoming locomotive is detached and a fresh locomotive is attached at the other end. The rake departs with the fresh loco, and the detached locomotive gets shunted to the trip shed.
Also the case of Madgaon is different, you see most KR trains are given decent slacks before entering MAO, also they are detained/controlled at MAO for crossings etc. Anyways most train halt at MAO for...

I live 2 km from MAO. My office is in Patto centre, have been living here for 2 decades and travelling everyday to Panjim. So please stick to the topic at hand rather than becoming a Goa know it all. What I was trying to convey was reaching Vasco will require the train for reversal for just traveling 32 Kms while also occupying the tracks. Had the train been coming from Karwar/Qlm side it would have been much easier.
With example of just one train that too weekly you are asking for other trains. I can quote multitudes of trains that don't worry about the hassle of reversal for this 32 odd kms
Political pressure is what got us Vasco Patna SF. And train is running successfully ever since then. Previously the same loco used to reverse at MAO now after electrification of KR different locos are used. And VSG has lots of freight locos at their disposal now which await their duties.
Also slack could be adjusted between MAO to VSG with change in TT upto MAO and slack given between MAO to VSG.

Living in Goa for 2 decades you should have known Vasco Da Gama much better than you know. Anyways there is not even a single train connectivity from Vasco to Gujarat inspite of lots of Gujaratis living in and around the suburbs.
And not one but 2 pax trains undergo reversals at MAO second one is Poorna express. And just check the prices of autos and taxis from Vasco to Madgaon. And don't tell to use buses because the bus stand at Madgaon is not much closer to the railway station and travelling in a bus with so much luggage just to catch a train when your own city has a railway station ?
