double decker coaches are heavy so acceleration will be slow, locals only stops for some seconds or mins on stations and if it will be DD it alighting and boarding will take time.

Have you seen EMU double deckers anywhere? Costs and practicality of having two level platforms at each station, possible reduction of speeds et etc

then they can run with Limited halts at important stations. The Engine of the Local can be replaced with higher Horse Power Engine 4 better acceleration.

height of the electric lines will have to be different which becomes problematic

no one has seen EMU DD. But this can be a solution for Mumbai Locals...

in that case the charges will be more from EMU's and don't be surprised if DD will be overtaken by an EMU.

i dont think Electric wire height has been changed in HWH- Dhanbad route 4 accommodating DD.

they can run as Fast Local. yes fares can be more than ordinary EMU

i m saying for HWH DD's route Electric wire height has not been raised, then it sould be feasible 2 run EMU DD also.
If at all Electric wire heights have 2 be changed, IR can experiment EMU DD on HWH- Bhardwan route.

even it can run faster the preference will be for EMU only, u can see it now also in mumbai even express and superfast train are given less preference infront of EMU's.

they can run EMU DD with lesser coaches for better accelerations, & even though its running with lesser coaches, its carrying more people...

so it will same carrying capacity as EMU only, in that case they should increase the no. of coaches in EMU this will solve the problem, then we don't need any DD.

how acceleration will become good with DD EMU? if it can then I guess acceleration will be fastest with multi-storey single coach EMU.

even with 5 DD coaches compared to 6 ordinary EMU coaches, DD capacity is more than ordinary (relative no. of coaches like for 9 ordinary, 7/8 DD) & added to it higher HP Engine....

That means you have to run both ordinary trains and DD emu on the same line. so if the electric line levels are raised what would the ordinary trains run by electric traction do?

yeah... entry and exit will be a big headache for design engineers... as people used to rush through in and out of the train.

Yes, If staircases are there there will be stampede and people will get hurt. If you go in for multilevel platforms it will be financially infeasible

DD Passenger train will help the commuters, Good Suggestion. IR should go for R&D on this.

Could be possible with automatic doors and marked entry and exit gates. similar to metro and preferably should be air conditioned.

I doubt it will work in Indian sub-urban network as most of the passengers stand.A double decker will not have enough head clearence.

DD needs to be redesigned, then it can work as DD EMU.

tats true. Rather than Express DDs, IR should redesign DDs and use it for Passenger Trains. Improved capacity should be utilized rather than spending those coaches on Expresses for under utilization.

Once Passenger DDs come out, they can be extended 2 EMUs also.

Except the motor cars,all other coaches of EMU can be DD.
& Motor car/Engine should be of higher power
