the train change its route many time .. priviosly it is terminated at SGU ( now SGUT ) when it runs through Bangladesh .

more... 1912 the BG portion run upto Bheramara & then after crossing ferry .the MG portions starts from Iswardi jn to Siliguri .. after completed Harding bridge ( sarar pul ) the BG portion ran till Iswardi then change to MG ..
In 1926 the Iswardi - Siliguri ( now SGUT ) sec is converted into BG . from then till 1950 it runs via this route with stoppage Sealdah - Barakpur - Ranaghat - Poradah - Iswardi - Natore - Santahar -akkelpur - jamalgunj - Hili -chorkhal - phulbari - Parbotipur jn - Saidpur - Haldibari - Jalpaiguri - Siliguri .
dep 15:45 from SDAH , arr 5:45 at SGU
dep 21:15 from SGU , arr 9:55 at SDAH (as per 1942 TT of Bengal & Assam railway )

After partision a massive change occouers in its route . the train follows only 7 km ( b/w approx 500 km ) of his old route .
Before comming up faraka barage & NJP station ( 1970 ) it runs in two portion again .
the BG portion run from Sealdah to Sahebgunj via Sahebgunj loop . after crossing ferry the MG portion runs from Manihari ghat , it use the route Manihari - Katihar - Sonali - BOE - KNE - AUB - Thakurgunj - Bagdogra & terminate at SGUJ ( made on 1949 at the north bank of mahananda )

After coming farakabarage & Assam BG project the train use current route .
but before 2000 the train was a non SF train . it has a lots of stoppage .. it dep SDAH on 19:35 & arr NJP 7:50
That time it hauls by Electric loco till BWN . after that it use BWN alco till MLDT & then Malda alco till NJP .there is also a slip portion which connectes Katihar which cuts at kumedpur jn ..

After 2003 , it become SF & 2 train ( 13147 & 13149 ) was started on its dep time & they are stopping all stations where Non sf Darjeeling mail ( 3143/4 - the non sf train no of DJ mail ) stops .
In 2007 it got EMD as link .
