As the saying goes ..the old must give way to the new , its very evident when it comes to the case of Bald head faced Indian Railway ALCo species , previously known as WDM-2C, presently a WDM-3A also termed as a BALDIE, by its looks. these Loco's are turning out to become extinct at a very fast pace.

Well , we are talking about Locomotive rebuilding, where the loco gets completely refurbished to a newer design and a much enhanced Technology for better over hauling performance .

The rebuilding is carried out by Diesel Loco Modernization Works (DMW) at Patiala,India.
.
Rebuilding comprises of upgrading the Bogies for improved Speed , Equipping with DBR's for better Braking , Microprocessor controlled Unit for easy Operations, APU for Fuel Efficiency. EMD type headlights for better visibility in the dark.Conversion of magnet frames of 2600 HP loco to suit 3100/3300 HP locos etc.

So, here we see the last surviving Baldie of Krishnarajapuram / KJM Diesel Loco Shed, which may get stripped off from Service any moment for rebuilding.

The Shed had around 10 Baldie's (WDM-3A ) 14007,14012,14019,14024,14025,14026,14028,14047,14053 & 14056.
.
14053 being the last and sole survivor while the rest have been already rebuilt / undergoing rebuild.
