This is a dream come true for those who love trains! As someone who has travelled extensively on trains, I can vouch for the fact that trains are the coolest way of travelling.
parallaximag As you sit by the window, trains bring an enduring happiness. The wind in your hair, the changing landscape - everything about this moving carriage is beyond perfect.  So here's the good news fellas-- you can now buy train coaches.  At least six metre-gauge trains have been pulled out of operation by the Lucknow division of the North Eastern Railway (NER) due to gauge conversion of the Aishbagh-Mailani section. These rakes (trains) would be auctioned by railways as soon as a committee declares them `condemned'. Turn them into

a fancy restaurant, your personal library, or the home you always wanted to have, as these coaches may soon be yours.
pinterest With the emblem of the Indian Railways on it, the coach could be modified to the buyer's liking or retain its original wooden seats.  People can participate in the auction and bid for what would then only be`scrap' for the railways. "Since railways no longer manufacture these coaches, some of them will be used to augment the existing pairs. The remaining would be sent to other railways with metre-gauge trains running if they demand."
smallhousebliss Thereon, if the railway finds no takers, they will put them on auction. The auction will soon be advertised, sometime during next month.  The railway is on with its full inspection- coaches that are more than 25 years old are abandoned, those in need of overhauling are sent to the workshop and the useful parts of a coach are removed. The remaining will be auctioned. The cost of the coach will depend on the tonnes of iron in it.
adventuresofagoodman FYI - The last coach that was auctioned 30 years ago was sold for 1,10,000.

Good marketing initiative by IR.
Definitely much higher revenue can be generated by IR through the auction of not-in-use coaches, as compared to earlier practice of selling it as scrap.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up. However, we still have on Average, about 300 Waitlisted TLs in the backlog at any time, and our hard-working and diligent TLMs...
