HISTORY ABOUT INDORE:

* First passenger train was started in 1877. It operated between Indore and Khandwa via Patalpani Kali Ghat, known as the most dangerous Ghat in the country. This was an 8- coach train. Due to geographical barriers number of coaches could not be increased here.

Broad gauge section began with the Ujjain railway line via Dewas.
* Indore-Bilaspur was the first long distance train started from the city. To bring the Indore-Delhi train—Malwa express— Indoreans had to struggle a lot.
* People of the region had to fight a lot to bring the Indore-Mumbai train. In 1985, the then railway minister Madhav Rao Scindhia announced introduction of Avantika Express.
* A section of citizens demanded that Avantika Express run from Indore junction to Mumbai Central but the railway ministry rejected the proposal to extend the Jaipur-Mumbai train up to the Mumbai central.
* Then advocate Nagesh Namjoshi and Dinkar Soman filed a petition in the MP High court. In this case, Indian Railway did not get any advocate from the city to represent its case.
* The ministry hired an advocate from other city. Indoreans won the case.
* In 1988 when Prakash Chandra Sethi was the railway minister, existing reservation building was constructed at the Indore railway station. Train for Hawrah and first train for southern state Indore-Cochin was introduced.
* Another Delhi-bound train Nizamuddin express was started after a lot of struggle. Initially, railway was about to start Kota-Delhi train. In 1989, MP Sumitra Mahajan succeeded in convincing the then railway minister to start the train from Indore.
