Wholeheartedly agreed that when fast trains do not halt at Kopar, giving halts to long distance trains is a distant dream...
But Just like Vidhyavihar & Tilak Nagar caters to passengers who wish to board from LTT, similarly, I think Kopar (Upper) station can definitely cater to CR passengers for trains which moves from WR to KR & vice versa. Both stations viz. Panvel & Vasai Road are around 45 kms apart from Kalyan/Dombivli/Thane. Panvel station accomodates passengers from Harbour line while Vasai Road caters to WR passengers. Even though trains pass through Kopar (Upper), due to no provision of halts, CR pax suffer.
Given...
more... the ample space available there, the existing two platforms can very well be extended to accomodate 24 coachers and necessary infrastructure can be provided . A two minute halt should not disturb the train running schedule.
Even trains coming from WR to CR like YPR GR, JU SBC/MYS express etc. can halt either at Kopar (upper) or at Kalyan. Kopar (upper) can thus be seen as a n alternative to decongest Kalyan Jn to some extent. As slow services are already available from Kopar (Lower) the connectivity with distant CR suburbs is well established.
