Kedarnath temple was opened in undue haste after mudslide. Even now nobody knows how many vanished. Given the fragile ecology of the region, train is a bad idea. In winter the temp even touches -50'c on rare occasions. Government should scrap this, but due to political compulsion they have to announce this wasteful project.

1. -50 C ???? Really when did this low occur? Or are you just floating theories like other "experts" here.
2. See the mainpost. The line is not to Kedarnath. It is to Sonprayag. There is snowfall and some freezing there, but -50 never. The snowing is on par with the Kashmir line. Rail can be operated through the year.

Back after a long break, feels good to be back. My query is, why does Sion station in Mumbai have 4 platforms. 2 are for slow locals, 1 for fast and express trains.
So what is the 4 th platform for? I've only seen urchins and homeless loitering there.

Shatabdi departs from pf 6 towards chennai and would arrive on pf 6/7.
You can walk back(not loco/engine side) on the same platform towards the end of the platform, and
(1)then take left, walk for about 150mts and turn right you will exit through back gate
(2)then take right, walk till you reach pf 1 and then turn right and walk for about
...
200-250 mts you will reach exit on the left side main gate(Note:- If Chennai mail is placed on pf 1 then please take back gate as suggested -point(1) above).
.
Let us know if you need more information?
.
You can avail free transport to anywhere inside the station for senior citizens and handicapped.

SION station in Mumbai has 4 platforms. I wonder what the reason could be, since only slow trains halt at Sion. Express and long distance trains use a different track altogether.
My question is, what was the reason they might have built 4 platforms, when 1 island platform would have been sufficient (as mentioned, fast trains do not halt at Sion anyway).

Do trains from BSB/ MGS passing through Chennai have a Chennai quota (and vice versa) ? If so, what is normally the quota allocated for trains passing via metro cities?

.."My brother living in Manipal has seen two accidents and one blockade this year due to boulders rolling off in the KR section.." yet another anecdotal evidence. when will you provide something worth actual matter??? i was born and bought up in Konkan and know this region, especially the one where Matsyagandha went down like the back of my hand. doesn't mean i shove it here down the throats of every random person.
People living in that section who decry about nets know even less than Jon Snow. they are the sort of people who think train runs slow because LP is lazy. please don't use their knowledge as a benchmark, they know as much as my cats do about nets, which

Eh? You've touched those nets eh? And do you know those so-called 'nets' are actually metal wires interwoven to form a net? DO NOT pass such flimsy, baseless statements if you don't know what you're talking about.

To those who try to rake up controversy out of this serious topic, esp. 1 or 2 people. I state a very simple fact in layman terms- even if the nets are made of industrial diamond, boulders will continue to fall with alarming regularity.
Scotch brite is also steel, yet it is easily bendable and breakable...the nets used by IR resemble mosquito nets more.

Fine. What about this then?
**"I've traveled reasonably lot on KR and they have huge nylon nets to catch falling rocks. I've touched those nets and they are quite flimsy and do not inspire any confidence. It is quite scary."**
Why post such nonsense by lying that you have touched the nets and that they are made up of nylon and then later object on everyone's post and cry foul? Are you a liar?

The poverty is striking. I don't want to say more about that though, but IR can do much more than just try to introduce trains for the affluent.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . -@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
