trivandrum kozhikkode via allp is 400 kms, which is what is mentioned. but kottayam would be more beneficial considering the soil conditions, the usability, and other aspects.

qln curve is now 30 [earlier 15]. considering trains will stop there for sure there is no ,much use in further speed enhancement there. on the kyj side it is good no problems, so pickup towards kyj or deceleration at qln wouldnt affect things much.

allp or ktym, curve or soil conditions are part of kerala geography; so it cant be dealt with differently in allp or ktym. both would be same only. allp is still single while ktym is fedl. that can bring in a change like vb did.

Should a new train be started from Chennai to Mangaluru and vice versa via JTJ, YPR, HAS (shorter route)?

There are restrictions in SBHR SKLR Shiradi Ghats. Already MAS MAQ doesn't have much demand/filling apart having three (or four) dedicated trains. If needed one of existing MAS MAQ can be extended till MAO by clubbing with a passenger and increasing deserved coaches.

When MAQ is not getting a fare share of trains to their own trains, it doesn't make sense to snatch away its trains to give another train the path. In short, its complicated.

True in terms of connection. But Chennai or TVC doesn't need so many trains to MAQ and it is like just terminated at MAQ. It becomes 'dumped' when MAQ doesn't get its fair share of trains because of this action.

Now, the problem will be that MAQ SBC MAS will not have the general quota for MAQ SBC. It is better to have a dedicated MAQ SBC if possible rather than putting a Chennai train towards that side. If at all a demand for HAS/SKLR exists, MAS SBC HAS/SKLR can be used

or the weekly to YPR can be extended to HAS/SKLR. For MAQ if you consider this route, the travel time will be: 6(MAS-YPR+Loco Reversal)+9.5(YPR-MAQ)=15.5(MAS-MAQ) which equals the current travel time via the traditional route. If you are intending to connect UD, KAWR side also it can be done by extending West Coast to MAO/clubbing it with MAQ MAO pass thereby boosting patro.

I am not against this route for MAQ MAS but considering multiple restrictions in the SBHR-SKLR route and the consequential limitation of trains worries me to not further restrict MAQ's fair share of trains.

it can be run. the problem i am trying to put forward is the limited number of trains that can be run in sbhr sklr. when sklr has mas can be addressed and when coastal karnataka mas can be addressed without touching the ghats, why trouble sbhr sklr
even if it makes travel time shorter it would be fine but it doesn't, its either the same or more.

basava started as something and ended as something, but it has different caterences true. it cant be however used comfortably for sbc bjp or bgk, for which golu would still be a better option. the unexplored shortest route would be sbc gtl gdg bgk bjp which has not much trains even though it would connect major ka cities. but it doesn't seem to be a problem considering other factors.
if you look at occupancies of maq mas trains also, end to end crowd is very less and is understandable as well.

for example, if there is an available slot in sbhr sklr, i would prefer a maq mys/maq sbc/kawr sbc train over a mas train. there would be vast quota differences in terms of seats allotted to different places.

has has [i mean hassan has] terminating trains. if mas sklr is the concern, then mas sklr can be a train, if mas sbhr is the concern it can be a mas maq train put to sbhr,
my point is the complexity and problems associated with the sbhr sklr ghats, wherein limited train can only ply.
second is mas maq side doesnt have any much demand. agreed maq is kind of being dumped upon by kerala trains but sadly, maq is bounded by the sbhr sklr ghats on one side and second

path is qlm clr which also has restrictions. if today a train is started via sbhr sklr towards mas and regularised, it indirectly brings us to a conclusion that it could have been utilized for a maq sbc or karnataka connection. i mean maq needs karnataka connection more than chennai, which is kind of empty despite being well connected. now if sklr or sbhr has a demand why should it ply only via the ghat is the question, it can be done by for example putting sbc mas mail to sklr [cutting rsa of karnataka] if needed.
the ghats is the crucial point here.

true, but its operationally tough for putting every train via maq,
even in mas, trains are diverted via perambur
plus the prime trains like sbc ones, and hopefully with the new pf, gomat and related guys will go to maq.

1. not needed coz it is not that big a crowd, and like u said cape rmm is there.
2. yes possible, dependent on other factors
3. not much useful, but if passengers can be clubbed/extended, then its fine
4.
...
can be via njt or by extn of puu mdu exp to ms via tj [considering limited coaches restrictions in puu sct ghats]
5. not needed, owing to cape dibru getting frequency increases [hoping it will be daily soon]
6. can be done by increasing freq of kcvl ubl if needed [if demand arises]
7. not required
8. can be tried

freq increase
1. will clog majn, operationally problematic
2. yes, if demand exists and if existing occupancy is good beyond ypr
3. not a very required one, instead it can be clubbed with slots of ers nzm drnt and ksk maybe [together a single daily slot]
4. can be done [not sure about occupancy] and it can be made a signle kcvl smvt via dpj/kjm [assuming one swr can transfer rake here and kcvl can maintain]
5,6,7. not reqd, handled by cape dibru freq increase
8. possible with rake integration with nethravati

extn
1. not required at all [esp a 14 coacher], peak time at tvc and operationally not possible
2. not required; alternatively, the trains tvc nzm weeklies [3 of them] could be clubbed as a single tvc baramulla/srinagar/svdk triweekly via pnvl adi aii jp ggn dec umb cdg ldh jat
3. nop, doesnt work that way, esp with just behind qln mail
4. yes, possible. should be done.
5. not required if tvc tbm via mainline comes up/puu mdu exp is extended via mainline
6. not required
