It is very difficult to reach Sarai Rohilla station from any part of Delhi. The roads are narrow and the traffic is haphazard, You have to compete with horse, bullock, autos, manual carts and a steady thick stream of pedestrian traffic to reach this station. A margin of 2-3 hours is to be kept for catching this train from Sarai Rohilla. Punishment for travellers to/from south.

It will be good for students of Pilani, i had to always come by bus, instead of train from Loharu, as all the south bound trains left from only NZM and NDLS, also it will be going to NDLS, so this move to decongest NDLS is good.

Aug 05 2015 (22:35)   Indian Railways: Safety must be a work in progress

Entry# 1558579   News Entry# 236638         Tags   Past Edits
Any railway accident is lamentable, but more so when it could have been prevented with a little foresight and proper communication. The two trains that derailed on a rickety bridge which was flooded in Madhya Pradesh fall into this category.

As usual, we see arguments, even from former railway ministers about why India should not focus on bullet trains when it has not done enough about the upgrade and safety of the existing system. This is not an either-or situation. While bullet trains should be introduced where feasible, the existing network
...

should be constantly upgraded and monitored.
Around 23 million people use the railway network each day and this makes it imperative that modernisation is an ongoing process. Lack of sufficient budget is a valid reason, but this can be remedied if the government is ready to bite the political bullet.
The answer lies in raising passenger fares at periodic intervals and not just freight charges. But passenger fare is a political hot potato and one which is perceived as having the potential to alienate voters if hiked now and again. It is no secret that vast tracts of tracks are outdated and pose a danger to traffic.
Level-crossings are often not manned and coaches lack fire safety measures. The skills of the huge workforce, which run the railways, too must be upgraded along with the infrastructure. The railways has, by the admission of successive ministers, large reserves of real estate. These have to be put to productive use or disposed off to raise revenues.
In keeping with the government’s push for Digital India, what the railways urgently need is better technology. This can prevent so many man-made errors. This can be used for early warning about dangers on the tracks, oncoming rail traffic and smoother coordination in the huge and sprawling network.
It is true that in recent years, ticketing has improved by leaps and bounds, thanks to technology. But alongside, there have been allegations of the tracks being damaged due to reckless overloading of freight.
A thorough overhaul of the tracks should be the first priority now that two accidents have happened, and so many lives lost, simply because of poor maintenance. The on-again, off-again proposal to privatise sections of the railways should be examined afresh as this might relieve some of the load on the government and improve services.
Unlike in previous mishaps, this time around, the authorities have launched rescue and relief operations promptly. But once this incident has ceased to be news, plans to minimise such mishaps should not get derailed as has happened in the past.

Accidents and disruptions are happening repeatedly in and around Itarsi. The concerned zonal incharge needs to tighten his and subordinates belt. It seems something is missing in the system or is being overlooked. Since IR is a national resource, persons responsible for control and supervision needs to review the style of working and take adequate measures so as to prevent loss of precious resources.

Railway catering, by contractors, in the moving train are becoming very expensive. For tea they are charging Rs 10 against Rs 7 fixed by railways. For vegetarian thali they are charging Rs 120 as against Rs 40 fixed by railways. On questioning, the standard answer given is, they are giving additional vegetable and jeera rice. I saw this racket happening in front of TTE's presence on Dadar Chennai Egmore express on 15th july 2015, while running betwean sho;apur and gooty and beyond. Items sold in the road side stations are also priced differently from the rates declared by railways. I think the catering contractors are brazenly looting the hapless travellers

Therailway is totally in the hands of Goyal, Gupta and Bansals. They are known to be very shrewed and cunning people in business circle. It seems the railway is being run on similar lines( for their personal benefit)

How to know schedules for future dates about train cancellation. It is very difficult to plan and book tickets under the present scenario, especially for senior citizens. Officials responsible for the travellers misery seems to be totally irresponsible and no agency to question the misdeeds.

Trains running betwean southern metros and Delhi/Mumnai have old and worn out coaches. I find that the condition of coaches in trains running in north, east and western zones are much better, atleast in the superfast trains.
Will the situation ever improve

1) Do not try accessing between 10 AM and 12 Noon as the servers are busy with tatkal race.
2) Do a google search for IRCTC and click the IRCTC link from the search result.
.
