The order of the coaches has reversed (compared to the schematic shown on indianrailinfo. I travelled 12262 / 12261 this month and found that when leabving from Mumbai CST the Bxx coaches (AC 3-tier) are nearest the loco and Axx / Hxx are towards the end of the rake. Also, A4 is officially called AE1 for the time being. Please update the scheme. Thanks.

They serve this for Rs.30. For the first time I spotted Chinese in IR and it was pretty good. Only if they could give me an extra sauce sachet. :/ Anyways, I suggest you to go for this one!

This chowmein is served only after 1500 hours so the timing is a bit poor. Can't hold off lunch for that long.

I travelled 12838 on CTC-HWH yesterday. AC-2 Tier coaches were ancient (ICF with two windows per coupe), with door handles coming off and thick layer of dust on edges of seats, window rubber, etc. It was just about tolerable due to the short journey (6 hours to HWH).

Both lower and upper berths on AC-2 Tier coaches have an excellent LED reading light (similar to that found in aircraft) - see photo. This makes it great for nighttime reading without disturbing others. It's a vast improvement over the 'shutter' lamps found on the non-LHB coaches which function better as room heaters!
The LHB coaches also seem to be a little more square in lateral cross section permitting more room on the upper berth as the photo shows.

These Improved lightning systems are available in LHB Coaches only because the normal ICF coaches are still using the shutter light systems. A good move by Indian Railways.

LED's emit less heat than normal sodium vapor lamps and its not a fault with IR or shutter lamps.
I agree on the part that they are better designed now.

These are the newer 2S Sitting coaches. Similar to the 'newer' ICF AC Chair car coaches (i.e. two sets of 3x3 seats facing each other) except no AC (of course :P) and far less leg room. You can see these coaches in some Jan Shatabdi trains also.

I travelled on 2A class on March 23.
The train was brought into YPR Jn almost an hour before departure but the Airconditioning did not start till we crossed Whitefield (15 mins after departure) - the heat was oppressive.
The seats had a thick layer of dust and grime, the plastic table was filthy with what seemed like dried sauce. On pointing this out the attendant reluctantly brought a dirty towel and indicated that I would have to clean up the dirt myself !
Later

I saw the coach was of 2009 make.

12250 NDLS HWH Yuva Express at Dhanbad Jn, running 2 hours late, hauled by WAP 4 of Howrah. I was fortunate enough to get a reservation in the 2A coach (temporarily augmented for summer). As you can see, the 2A is an ancient coach, leftover from a Rajdhani rake with dual windows in each coupe. However it was clean and well -maintained...strongly recommend due to its good speed and convenient timing + limited halts...as good as Duronto.

The timing of the train and route makes it a very very safe option if travelling Delhi-HWH. Leaving NDLS at 1945, it crosses UP at night and Jharkhand / Bihar is crossed between very early morning as the sun is rising. There is less chance of robbery, dacoity, etc. that is a major concern in the region.

Do you mean that the Dhanbad - Gaya - Mughalsarai Route is also vulnerable to robbery during night (or may be during day time also) like the Madhupur - Patna - Mughalsarai Route ? :-p ;-)

Old WDS shunts in 12381 Poorva Express at HWH for 0815 departure. This poorva, like all HWH-NDLS trains via Gaya is greatly recommended over via-Patna route trains for safety reasons (unless you're traveling to Patna / Mokamah). Second photo shows an Eastern Railway local parked at platform 5 in mixed livery taken from 3rd AC interior.

thanks for the much needed suggestion. I was thinking of Poorva only because of pure LHB sleeper but as per your suggestion I think I should go with Duronto only. Another concern was security especially after many recent incidents of dacoity etc on the HWH-NDLS main line.

Most welcome. I go to great lengths to avoid the Patna-Bhagalpur-Mokameh trains for these reasons (safety, quality of co-passengers, security, travel time). I share your enthu about seeing the 'LHB' sleeper coaches on Poorva but found out the best (and safest) way was to board one at Howrah for 5 mins (before departure). It turned out to be pretty similar inside (toilets seemed to be a bit better).
