So "Laut ke buddhu ghar ko aaye" is the final verdict as of now, from Talgo's/Spain's point of view.
It was reported that cost per Talgo coach as verbally indicated by Talgo officials is about 7 crores. So for 13M length of Talgo coach, the cost per M is Rs 55 lacs. LHB ac coach costs about Rs. 2.5 crore for 24M length and the cost per M length is only Rs 10 lacs.
If LHB coach can run at 160kmph and can be upgraded to 200kmph, 180kmph speed achieved by...
more... the Talgo is not that important. USP of Talgo train is higher speed permitted on curves due to tilting system. IR not requesting for conduction of Talgo trials in prominent and different hilly and ghat stretches on IR network , for exhaustive evaluation of the efficacy of the tilting system, was an ample indication of the interests IR had in Talgo.
IR should try to make its all its trunk lines (GQ+diagonals) and other important sections fit for 130/160kmph on priority for next few years. It is better to keep quiet on 160kmph+ speeds on IR network for a few years and finally adopt MUM-AHM Shinkanshen technology features in Rajdhani/Shatabdi etc premium rakes for high speed rather than spending a huge amount in Talgo trains.
Talgo should understand that unlike Saudi Arabia/ Middle east countries where it supply Talgo train set, India is a poor country with much more technological prowess. India is a established player and have a vast and fairly developed Railway network. They should have given a cost effective and digestible offer to ensure acceptance by IR.
More over Poor financial condition where revenue generated by IR is falling short of budget figures by a huge margin (10%) & with IR struggling to meet its essential expenses, spending on a project like Talgo train is very difficult.
