I fully agree with you. A PNR predictor never takes into account the possibility of an upgradation. PNR prediction is for the said class of a particular train. Availability in the higher classes, which consequently results in an upgradation should not be considered.
Yes, it was just for referral.
Coming to your suggestion, here at IRI the only thing that concerns us is/are manual intervention.
Other than this, augmentation of extra coaches, #downgradation, #upgradation isn't that alarming. Reason being they are carried out automatically by the system and the passenger has no personal role in determining the outcome of the PNR.

Extra coaches when planned earlier and announced is fine.. With the existing rake it shudnt be the case. The predictors have no idea of auto upgradation happening similar to how HO is being used by the pax. So to my thoughts it should be VOID. Automatically or Manual predictors cant keep Autoupgradation in mind when predicting. Tell me how will a Person think this will be autoupgraded and mark Conf to it. Manual or Automatic something unexpected at the time of prediction should be marked VOID is my point. Historical rules can be discussed over and if required should be changed.
Its's usual with this train... Because 1AC would generally be not sold out.. chances are more to get upgraded. I got upgraded once recently while travelling from YPR to KSN.
That is for the predictor to gear up his activity and keep a record of such trains. There are many trains which keeps getting extra coaches on a daily basis. Now if you expect everything to be handed over on a silver platter to the predictors, I am sorry to say the level of prediction is surely going to come down.
However historical the current rules may sound, I am sure while framing those people were logical and sensible enough to frame out the correct and apt ones. System isn't our enemy to preplan and get the tickets confirmed by lieu of extra coaches and/or auto-upgradation.
