If you cram in upper berths as well, you can squeeze in 80 more people, but with some adjustments, you can fit in 40 more. And if folks sit at the gate, stand around, use a handkerchief, blanket, or makeshift arrangements, you can squeeze in 400-500 peeps with the same capacity. But, the capacity of reserved classes (64-83) is fixed. I've traveled in the General Class on long-distance trains. People in the General section spend more than those in the reserved section; the pantry guys really rip them off. It's not like they don't want reservations, but who will guarantee them a confirmed ticket? If the railway increases General Coaches and introduces new ordinary trains, it will be a huge relief for those with reserved seats. Otherwise, the day isn't far when the concept of reservations in the railway will be meaningless. Because giving reserved tickets to every Tom, Dick, and Harry in the General section is not the railway's cup of tea.
