Yes also recently the ghat section are getting lot of trains, so I think its worth introducing a new train from MAQ to MAS via SMVT
One train definately needed via shiradi ghats from chennai as there is no connectivity there. It can be for mangaluru or via KR any destination. SR never cares to run such as it feels routing via CLT attracts more revenue. Technically ghat section adding difficulty,+ via CLT u can easily take 22 coacher train which via hassan we have restriction of 14/16 i suppose. so y to sacrifice extra revenue when running time is similar.
It is true that CLT section has more pax than running via Hassan , but they could defnitely start with bi weekly and make it daily via SMVT, Hassan, MAJN (reversal), to Udupi and Goa !
/train/38784/779/1803 train like this will provide Goa, Coastal Karnataka link to Vellore and chennai. which also provide them vital xfer for pilgrim locations Kanchipuram, thiruvannamalai and pondicherry.

An MP from Kerala has requested to revert the timings of 12685 back to original timing (5 PM) or beyond that.
If this happens, then the extension of train till Murdheshwar may not materialize, I guess.

No maintanence at MAJN/MAQ for this train. this is a chennai based train so according to your post if it arrives at 04 pm it can leave from MAJn at 04:10 pm
