Shri Kuvempu's House is in Kuppalli in Theerthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district. There are no railway lines in this region. The nearest station is SMET. From Shivamogga you can take a bus directly to Kuppalli or take a bus to Theerthahalli first and then take another to Kuppalli. There are a lot of buses. It costs around 80 rs and takes about 2 hrs to reach the village.
It is my dream to go to Theerthahalli, want to read some of his works but understanding them is difficult for me as I am still learning Kannada & dont have very good grip with the language. Actually last year I was planning to go either to this place or UBL/GDG. Then booked to UBL side in the last moment as UBL side there are rail lines and I didnt know how to go to Theerthahalli & the frequency of buses from SMET. Next time will visit this great place.
Thanks maga for these wonderful captures :)
The entire region is worth a lot of visits. I personally can't afford costly accommodation nor have my own vehicle.
You can also try to see all waterfalls nearby too, if you have your own vehicle. Except of course India's Highest Waterfall.
I only go by public transport everywhere maga.
Golden jubilee of Kannada’s first Jnanpith:
Though Kuvempu was honoured with the award on December 20, 1968, it was for the year 1967
It has been 50 years since Kannada got its first Jnanpith award. Though it was conferred on Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa (Kuvempu) for his magnum opus Sri Ramayana Darshanam on December 20, 1968, it was for the year 1967.
Thanks, I couldn't see the award as it was with his family in Mysuru.
The 'Karnataka Ratna' displayed there was a sight to behold.
Indeed great that the language of Kannada though smaller in size compared to other languages has produced 8 Jnanapeeth award winners. Highest if population ratio is considered. And Kuvempu served as the leading light for all.
His Ramayana version for
8years to complete this work, epic !!!! Kuvempu _/\_
If at all u are going again to Kuppali, please do tell me, I would also join you.
What more can we ask.,.... Golden jubilee ... A perfect balanced poet between Right and Left which cannot be seen in these days.
Theerthahalli is an amazing place. Just love those areas. Particularly Agumbe , Mavinkatte region

A great honor to the great Poet
Retiring rooms available at station.
Many lodges available after about 1km from station while going to Shimoga city center.
Can it be booked online? what is the condition of the rooms & charges etc.
Online booking absent. Rooms are OK from outside. Couldn't inspect inside. Will let you know the charges on next visit.
You can put all these in one blog rather than one blog for each attraction or place.
