Railway Ministry has given a gift to city dwellers who often travel to South India. The Railways is starting direct train from Jabalpur to Tirunelveli from April 5, informed Member of Parliament Rakesh Singh.Singh said a number of South Indians who live in the city have constantly been demanding for the direct train to Tirunelveli via Vijayawada, Madurai.
West Central Railways informed that the Railway Board has accepted the demand and is starting weekly train from April 5. The train would run on every Thursday. It would start from Jabalpur Railway Station at 9.30 am and would reach Tirunelveli at 4.45 am via Narsinghpur, Gadarwara, Piparia, Itarsi, Nagpur Sevagram etc, on Saturday. The train would return from Tirunelveli on the same day
at 5.30 pm and would reach Jablapur at 11.15 am, on Monday. The train would have 2 SLR, 4 General coaches, 10 Sleepers, 2 AC three tier and 1 AC two tier.
Singh further informed that the Railway Board has approved Jabalpur-Tirunelveli-Jabalpur (02194/02193) special train from April 5 to June 28, 2018. It may extend the train further after evaluating occupancy and commercial view point.

First India-made semi high-speed train will hit the tracks in June 2018. The self-propelled train, with state-of-the-art amenities, can run at a maximum speed of 160 km per hour, making it the fastest in the country. The indigenously built train is expected to replace all Shatabdi trains in a phased manner.
The train will have 16 coaches and each of them costs Rs 6 crore, according to an Economic Times Report. The manufacturing cost of the train is estimated to be around Rs 100 crore, it added.
Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in
Chennai run by Indian Railways is manufacturing the train. It will sport modular toilets, automatic plug doors, plush interiors and diffused lighting. Also, the train will have large windows for non-AC coaches, ergonomic handholds and rubberized flooring.

"This will be the first ever semi high-speed train that is being manufactured by Indian Railways on its own. The train set would be able to run at the speed of 160 km per hour, making it the fastest in the country," Economic Times quoted Sudhanshu Mani, ICF general manager, as saying.
If the new made-in-India trains went well, it will gradually replace all Shatabdi trains, Mani said, adding that its seating would be more spacious.
ICF, one of the leading coach manufacturers for the Indian Railways, is now engaged in manufacturing of premium train sets under the Centre's 'Make in India' initiative.
"We'll be producing a record number of 2,500 rail coaches including 1,100 LHB coaches this year, which will be the highest ever for the ICF facility," Mani added.
According to ICF, this will be the first-of-its-kind train set fully made in India when it rolls out from the factory.

waise, with current coaches it did 150 anyways till AGC. seems a waste of money to spend 100 crores on 16 coach rake and get only a marginal improvement in speed.

Good to know that. Such symmetrically assembled locomotives when starts chugging, are a treat to eyes. Even in case of electric locomotives, I liked the look of upcoming WAG12 in the pictures that were floating in the social media in the recent past. Such arrangement of twin locos look so much better than the way WAG7s are coupled.

KJM too used to couple the locos SHF-SHF many times. Though on fewer occasions than MLY or the others. Even with MLY, the arrangement was more common with their WDM2's, than with the recent WDM3A's or WDG3A's. The older WDM2's had the driving cab on the right side when in SHF, this meant that the LP had to rely on the ALP to call out the signals to him. Whereas, in LHF, the LP himself would be able to sight the signal. So, the SHF-LHF arrangement had some merit to it. The newer WDG3A's and EMD's have the driver cab on the left hand side, so the LP never has a problem sighting the signals.
Also, reversing
the incoming ALCO needs either a turntable or a reversing triangle. Turn-tables have practically disappeared now, while not all stations have reversing triangles available. KJM locos frequently use the CSDR-BYPL-KJM triangle for reversing, which makes it easier for them to have SHF-SHF twins. MLY and particularly ED do not have these arrangements. With the MLY bypass now available, MLY has a reversing line for use. ED however needs meticulous planning to ensure Locos are SHF. They either need to go to TPJ, take another train to SA and thus have the 2 reversals necessary to get the loco in the opposite orientation. Before the Salem-Karur line was opened, they had to run the loco till Salem and use the triangle at Magnesite Jn. to reverse the loco and run the loco back to ED. So, ensuring the SHF-SHF arrangement was not always possible.

Yup, they will have to run the loco with some train till Kurla and use one of the bypasses in Mumabi to reverse the loco. They will mostly rely on running a few trains with LHF on specific routes so that it will arrive at Pune in SHF mode for some important train.
