GAZIABAD:
After waiting for an hour inside the waiting room of GZB until 11 pm, we finally heard the announcement, “15013 Ranikhet Express going to Kathgodam is arriving shortly on PF 1. We immediately gotten onto the PF. The TTE was waiting outside the coach and I told him that we were to board at SBB but are boarding here. He asked me, why ? . I told him that I wasn’t sure the SBB was such a small station with no security and protection to counter the chill weather. He accepted my request and let me board.
-------------------------------------------
Gotten onto the berths. The Coach attendant heard us speaking in Telugu and asked if we are from AP. I replied yes. He replied in Telugu, “I am also from AP”. I asked him on how ended up in BGKT-KGM express. He said that he wrote GKP RRB and would soon be transferring to VSKP opting for a mutual transfer as he is a native of CHE – Srikakulam Road station in AP. We were so happy that we got some to provide service to us is so polite again.
Without wasting much time as the bell rang 00:00 taking us into 2014, we wished eachother a very happy new year and fell asleep only to be woken up politely by the coach attendant again at 5 am wishing us a good morning & a happy new year. He said,” we are arriving on PF 1 of KGM in 2 minutes.” Before we could even set ourselves right, the train halted at right time on KGM’s PF 1. We took some time to get ourselves to moving as it was the last station and we were the last to leave the station.

1st January, 2014: NAINITAL
When we walked outside the station surprisingly everyone had already left and few taxis were waiting. One taxi guy approached us seeking if we want to goto Nainital. He said he would charge 450/- to drop us at Nainital which is 30 kms up hill. I bargained it down to 350/- which is 10.5 rs per km and is very much acceptable for a Petrol run Alto, up hill.
We reached Nainital and our hotel in turn and asked him if we can check in. he said that we have to wait until 10 am or until someone vacates, whichever is earliest. As we could do nothing, we started waiting in the chilling lobby with a comforter on, expecting that someone would soon vacate. We gotten into the room at 8 am as a Mumbaikar family vacated much before the checkout time.
---------------------------------------------
We gathered ourselves, freshened up, had breakfast and set ourselves to walk down the street to start our exploration of Nainital and surroundings.
We engaged a taxi driver for 600/- to take us through a half day Himalaya darshan in which they would take us to the 6 caves, a site from where we can see the Himalayan snow covered peaks, Lovers Point, Bara Pathar, Krupatal view point, A small water fall and back.
-------------------------------------------
What followed it was a 2 days full of Wintertainment, going on boat time, roap way, playing in snow, High altitude zoo, Cricket at Nainital Zymkhana, Shopping, Pre-Paid Rickshaw journey on Mall road for 10/- each (You have to stand in the queue and prepay just as we do at the airport for prepaid taxi), peaceful walk in the mall road back to hotel… it was just awesome…

3rd Jan, 2014: JIM CORBETT
After two days, it was time to set ourselves explore the Tiger forest this time, The Jim Corbett. We hired a taxi for 1300/- to drop us off after 8 kms of RMR, which was 50 kms from Nainital.
We checked into our beautiful forest resort and finished lunch, took some rest and walked straight down the road to take our kid on an elephant ride. Which we all enjoyed a lot and took a shared auto ride back to the hotel for 20/- . Had a nice ginger tea in the cold evening from a road side tea-stall. Simply awesome. We also did pre-book an open top Gypsy safari into the Jungle.

4th Jan, 2014: JIM CORBETT
We wokeup as early as 5:30 am, freshendup and found that the Gypsy is already waiting for us. Se set straight in the chilly morning out into the Jungle on a Saffari. The 4 hr drive along the river Ram Ganga into the Jungle, made us see the all early morning animals including several types of deers, elephants, peacocks, monkeys and most importantly a Tiger. We returned back at 10 am to the hotel, finished out shower and breakfast, and vacated the room by 12 pm. Meanwhile I found out that the fog effect on trains is reduced and that BAGH express is running ontime. So cancelled by FD express from MB, instead decided to take BAGH from HDW. HDW was 50 kms away. So hired an auto for 150/- to drop us off at RMR state bus stand. Waited there for 30 minutes to get in to the Dehradun-Haldwani Super express with only one halt at Kaladungi, the Jim Corbett’s village and museaum.
----------------------------------------------
Reached HDW at 3:30 pm and took a rickshaw ride for 40/- from Bus stand to HDW Railway station. The rest of the story would follow in Leg 5.
