Nov 04 (21:55)   Midnight protest held in Goa over doubling of railway line to Karnataka

A massive protest by hundreds of men, women and children was held in south Goa’s Chandor village over the doubling of the railway line to Karnataka. Protesters sat on a railway track, where work was set to begin for doubling of tracks on Sunday night. The protestors lit candles and spent the night on the rail tracks until dawn to prevent the rail staff from beginning work. There were protesters who beat drums and danced in traditional Goan style.Top police officials including South Goa Superintendent of Police also failed to pacify the protesters. According to the protesters under the banner of 'Goyant Kollso Naka' (GKN-don't want coal in Goa), the doubling of track works between Vasco in Goa to Hospet in Karnataka’s Ballari is being undertaken solely for the purpose of transporting coal from the state to neighbouring Karnataka. The protests were also supported by the opposition parties in Goa namely...
the Congress, Goa Forward Party and the AAPSunday night’s protests are also against the environmental destruction, which residents and environmental groups allege will take place to make way for projects common to both states.
According to the environmental group, Greens, nearly 50,000 trees within the eco sensitive Western Ghats region are set to be felled for expansion of railway lines, highways (NH-4A) and drawing of a new high tension power spread across protected forests in and around Mollem village. The railway doubling line even involves cutting of trees in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and a national park on the border of the state. The projects have already been cleared by the National Wildlife Board for Wildlife in April much to the dismay of environmental activists who have now approached the courts. The opposition parties, civil society groups and tourism stakeholder bodies have also expressed apprehension about these projects being pushed at an "express pace" to facilitate movement of coal imported through the Mormugao Port Trust facility in Goa to steel mills in Karnataka's Ballari.

That's what happens when Socialism is unknowingly deeply ingrained in the minds of a large section of population.
People have antagonized Adani and Jindal here in Goa they simply hate corporates.
Mentality is these corporates are looting and destroying Goa in the name of coal transportation.

We should also blame Govt. of Goa and SWR for not providing necessary clarifications by organising press conferences and stuff. Many innocent people even highly educated are mislead into protesting by these NGOs and other groups who have their own hidden political and social agendas.
But also there are many sensible Goans who are supporting the development projects but it's the job of the govt. and Railways to clear the confusion by providing necessary facts.
Few days ago we were having a discussion at my workplace and all agreed that the ones
opposing are just misguiding people and development projects are necessary.

Sep 07 (09:46)   Dudhsagar’s beauty will be destroyed if railway double tracking materialises: Locals

Railway Fan~   434 news posts

The world knows Dudhsagar for its beauty, say Collem locals, who fear that the proposed railway double tracking project will destroy the same, if it becomes a reality.
They say they will do what it takes to protect not only their village beauty but also their livelihood, which depends on tourism related activity. However, they clarified that they are not opposed to the project in general; but that until the railway double tracking plan is shown at Dudhsagar, they will oppose the project.
Collem Sarpanch Mani Lambore said they submitted their
demands to the Railway officials who had assured to show them the plan in 15 days.
This was discussed at the media briefing addressed by the Collem locals, where they reiterated their intent to protect the tourist destination, ie Dudhsagar waterfall.
“We are not opposed to the proposed double tracking plan of South Western Railway but want the beauty of Dudhsagar to be retained,” they said, while adding that they are waiting to see the presentation of the project.
To support the new railway line, they fear that a new bridge will be constructed, which would be parallel to the existing bridge.
They fear this will destroy the entire visual display of the waterfall, given the proximity of the new bridge to the waterfalls. To minimize the risk of water falling on the bridge, they fear a retaining wall will be built by the railway authorities, which would block the view of Dudhsagar.
“If this happens, how will the tourists look at it and if they can’t watch the majestic waterfall, why then would they come to our village,” they added.
The Collem Sarpanch added that they have been opposing the double railway track project for the last decade; and that they have also submitted their demands to Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and local MLA and PWD Minister, Deepak Pauskar.

First of all Railways are the most economical mode of transportation in the country especially the freight traffic. Doubling of tracks will definately be helpful economically which is the need of the hour now in Goa. After the ban on mining in Goa the economy has suffered badly and due to which many people depended on mining and related sectors lost their jobs and businesses.
And this is not the only project that is opposed people are also opposing the widening of NH4A highway, IIT project, Mopa Airport, restating of mining, etc. and on the other hand the same people are hammering the government night and day for not providing jobs and the falling economy.
doubling is cleared by both Goa and Karnataka forest departments and I don't think adding a second line on the already existing route would damage natural beauty.
Moreover now due to lack of jobs or good salaries many Goans are moving to other countries I can name atleast 100 people who I know working in Golf, UK or on cruises I myself am personally trying past two years for a job at UAE as it's difficult to sustain a decent life in Goa.
These people opposing also are supported by a group called Revolutionary Goans which is utterly racist they call all non Goans as "Ghatis" means one coming from the Ghats and sorry for saying it's you also as per them, that group's main motto is to form a regional party through which they can enter politics and they are all around doing selective outrages in which some migrants are doing some misdeeds or criminal activities and portraying an image to Goans that migrants are bad and need to be kicked out of the state of Goa and whole Goa belongs to Goans only so it's natural that when people are brainwashed by such ideas they will oppose any kind of development project as it will definitely bring in more migrants due to the growing economic activities.
In the end I would say it's more political especially regional politics and attitude of some Goans towards non Goans that people are opposing any kind of development projects without realising that it would be Goa which would suffer ultimately.
All this is coming from myself who is a native Goan.

Apr 23 (23:43)   CWC meet: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra says migrant workers stuck at state borders must be allowed to return home

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has demanded that migrant workers stranded at different state borders due to the lockdown should be allowed to return to their native places. While addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting through video-conferencing on Thursday, Priyanka said that due screening should be done and precautions should be taken to permit stranded migrants to go to their villages.
“As times pass, we need to permit migrant workers to return home after due testing and precautions,” the party general secretary for Uttar Pradesh said.
Thousands of migrant workers remain stranded at
various state borders despite their attempts to reach home during the lockdown. They were stopped by state authorities at borders and kept at relief camps. According to the Labour ministry data, around 20 lakh migrant workers are stranded in various relief camps organised by state government authorities or by their employers or in localities where they are generally clustered. The number of such stranded workers across the country might go up further, it said.
The lockdown announced by the central government on March 24 brought all economic activities to a grinding halt, leaving daily wagers and labourers jobless and with little means to sustain their families. The suspension of rail and road traffic only added to their woes, forcing thousands to leave for home on foot.
In many cities, thousands of such workers are still residing at their rented accomodation and the local administration is providing them food and essential items. However, there have been law and order issues at certain places as many of them turned up at bus and railway stations in their bid to reach their respective homes.
Priyanka has also urged the Uttar Pradesh government to make arrangements for bringing back migrant labourers from the state stuck in other states. She added that compassion was the key to fight the deadly virus and not hostility towards the victims of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday decided that it will allow other states to take back migrants from their states if they desired. According to PTI, the decision was taken at a review meeting on the coronavirus crisis where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the UP government will cooperate with other states on this.
The Uttar Pradesh government recently sent buses to bring home its own students stranded in Rajasthan’s Kota. It had also briefly allowed the movement of migrant workers heading back to Uttar Pradesh.

Goa government this month gave Rs. 6000/- to workers in construction line and most of them atleast 80 to 90 percent are migrants from UP, Bihar and Jharkhand. So atleast in my state the migrants are much better where they are.
Regarding opposition looks like here they just want to see the government fail in the fight against corona so that they can gain in the upcoming elections. Sadly that's the truth and many people are falling for their lies remember the incidents at Delhi and Mumbai which are the major hotspots of corona in India.

KRCL blocks the new train from Bengaluru to GoaKonkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL), headquartered in Navi Mumbai, appears to have blocked the introduction of a new train to Goa from Bengaluru. Although the much-awaited train service to the popular holiday destination via coastal Karnataka was announced three weeks ago, the South Western Railway (SWR) has been unable to run the service.
Sources in the SWR said the Railway Board has instructed the officials to put the new service on hold. “As the new service passes via three railway zones, the railway board had conducted a joint-meeting of officials from different zones. Later, the Board instructed us to keep the service on hold,” a senior SWR official said.
non-introduction of service -- train number 06587/06588 -- is likely to embarrass both Suresh Angadi, Minister of State for Railways and former minister Shobha Karandlaje who had officially announced the new train between Yeshwantpur and Vaso-da-Gama, earlier this month. Many commuters were extremely happy as the train timings were convenient both for Bengalureans and residents of coastal Karnataka.
Several associations including Karnataka Railway Vedike, Rail Prayanikara Hitharakshana Samithi and Kukke Shree Subramanya - Mangalore Railway Commuters Forum have urged the Railway Board to run the train. Some also wondered if KRCL is more powerful than minister Suresh Angadi.
“It’s high time the KRCL is bifurcated and the portion of railway line that falls in Karnataka is brought under South Western Railway. The coastal Karnataka has been waiting for a train service with convenient timings for the last thirteen years. It’s unfortunate that one zone is blocking the service that would have benefitted hundreds of people,” said Krishna Prasad, a retired government employee.

It's known fact that SWR only cares about freight revenue from VSG that's why they always refused to start new trains from VSG. Now with the new MoSR things have changed for better in VSG favour.
But here in the case of ypr vsg via Udupi it's KRCL who played dirty games.
