a disruption in train services. Train operations resumed after five hours, around 2.15 AM, after railway personnel removed the carcass from the track. Several trains, including the Samaleshwari Express, were stranded during this time. The incident occurred when a herd of 23 elephants was crossing the railway line near Bundamunda A Cabin on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. A goods train was standing on the other track, and when the N Box goods train came from the up main line, the elephants panicked and ran. The eight-month-old calf was hit by the train, resulting in its death. Two other elephants, including a calf, were injured. On Tuesday morning, forest department officials, including DFO Yashwant Sethi, reached the scene of the accident. The carcass was buried after a post-mortem examination. The train's assistant driver, Kavi Raj Mahto, was taken into custody for questioning about the train's speed and the incident. However, he was released around 3:30 PM after questioning. The N Box goods train was being operated by driver Manoj Kumar and assistant driver Kavi Raj Mahto. The news of the assistant driver's detention led to protests by the crew at the Bundamunda Crew Lobby, where they staged a sit-in demonstration.

Ek maalgaadi dusri line par khadi thi aur jab N Box naam ki maalgaadi up main line se aayi, toh haathi idhar-udhar bhaagne lage aur aath mahine ka nanha haathi maalgaadi ki chapet mein aa gaya. Is haadse mein nanhe haathi ki maut ho gayi aur do aur haathi, jisme ek nanha haathi bhi shamil hai, ghayal ho gaye. train driver's assistant was briefly detained by the forest department but later released after questioning. The incident happened as a herd of 23 elephants was crossing the railway track, and one of them got hit by a goods train called 'N Box'. The forest department sent the injured elephants to a safe location in the Sagwan forest for treatment. Several trains were delayed due to the train stoppage, including the Samaleswari Express. The forest department had informed the railway authorities about the elephants in the area for the past three-four days, but no concrete steps were taken, according to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO). The Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) stated that several measures have been taken to prevent elephants from entering the railway tracks, including iron barricading and speed control in elephant zones.
