IR usually short terminate the trains of other satellite terminals of Metro city, like many trains had been short terminated to Kurla instead of Dadar/CSTM, short terminated to NZM instead of NDLS.
It is good to note that SR is extending the North Bound trains to Tambaram and not short terminating south bound trains.

Tambaram terminal is After Chennai Egmore station, So they cann't short terminate as there are no near by terminals other than Tambaram.
yes its a good move by SR. Many people use it till Tambaram for sure. Also they should try Guindy or St.thomas stops
