KOCHI: As Kochi Metro gets ready for commercial operations in April next year, the Metro agency has charted out plans to ensure revenue generation for its operations and maintenance.Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is set to release tenders for placing advertisements on Kochi Metro, its stations as well as other tangible properties by mid-January 2017.
The Metro will be banking on revenues generated through branding of stations, advertisements on Metro pillars, median and mobile apps, dedicated ways from stations to various establishments along the Metro corridor and by providing Metro trains and its premises for film shooting.
time, KMRL will come up with more innovate steps to generate revenue.Initially, five metro stations have been selected for branding. These stations will carry the names of the brands for three years. Another initiative is to provide separate interconnections from the station to establishments along the Metro corridor. This is a permanent facility offered to these establishments. Those opting for the facility will have to meet the construction cost, land value and yearly fees. We will also tender all commercial spaces at stations for generating revenue," said a KMRL spokesperson.
KMRL said that they would be inviting separate tenders for placing advertisements inside stations and trains. This is because these advertisements would be in digital format. The tenure for placing advertisements is different. While some spaces would be given for three years, others would be for seven years or more.
Apart from these, Kochi Metro will get a revenue of Rs 209 crore as card premium from Axis Bank. If the smart cards are used for a purpose other than transit or transportation, the bank will have to provide 20% share of such revenue to KMRL.
The loans for Metro come with a moratorium of five years. Hence, KMRL would have to consider repayment only after five years. "When the moratorium ends, KMRL will be equipped to pay back bank loans. We are working on the proposed township at Kakkanad as well as other projects," she said.
