South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to resume services of Tatanagar-Visakhapatnam Express from December 2 less than a month after the train, first introduced during Puja, was discontinued from November 11.
The decision, sure to be greeted with a smile by those planning a trip to the South from Jamshedpur this winter, was announced by an SER spokesperson who said the train would now run as a winter special for two months till January 2017.
"Depending on the response, we might decide to extend the train further," he said.
to a schedule released by SER, the Up train (08189) will leave Tatanagar every Friday from December 2. The train will leave Tatanagar at 1pm and will reach Visakhapatnam at 5.25am the next day. The return train (08190) will leave Visakhapatnam at 5.45 pm every Saturday. It will reach Tatanagar at 10.45am the next day.
The train with stops at Rajkharsawan, Chaibasa, Dongaposi, Banspani and Bhubaneshwar, would run till January 28, as per the official circular which reached the Jamshedpur office of the station manager on Tuesday.
Tatanagar station manager O.P. Sharma said the train would also stop at Nayagarh, Kendujhargarh, Harishchandanpur, Sukinda, Jakhapura, Cuttack, Khurdah Road, Brahmapur, Srikakulam Road and Vizianagaram stations.
The train will have nine coaches (AC 2-tier-1, AC 3-tier-1, sleeper class-5 and general second class-2).
According to Sharma, the decision to re-introducing the train was taken keeping in view passenger demand.
"Two other trains to the South, namely, Tata-Alleppey Express and Tata-Yeshwantpur Express, witnesses a huge rush during festivals and vacations. The resumption of the Tata-Visakhapatnam weekly express train would help tackle the rush during the winter vacation," he said.
Sonari resident P.N. Rao, who travels to the South frequently on the Tata-Alleppey Express, welcomed the decision. "Apart from tackling the winter rush, the train will also help those who travel down South for medical emergencies," he said.
