The Kerala government has requested the Railway Board to extend the proposed Angamaly-Erumely Sabari rail line to Thiruvananthapuram. low projected rate of return in 2013. However, Kerala's increased traffic and the upcoming Vizhinjam port necessitate a new rail line. The proposed alignment, which would run parallel to MC Road, would cover 160 km, connecting Nedumangad to the rail network, as per Railway's new norms for towns with a population exceeding 50,000. The government urges the Centre to include this project in the Rail Sagar Scheme, citing the existing rail line's inability to handle the rising demand. The extension would also link the Sabarimala airport, making it the third rail corridor for Kerala and reducing dependence on roads.

Yeh extension, jo ki ₹1,000 crore extra kharch karega, proposed Sabarimala international airport aur Vizhinjam international seaport ko connect karega, ek important transport corridor banakar.
