Sep 16 (18:12)   Good News For Rail Passengers, Cut Off in Ticket prices of some trains

Indian Railways have structured the cut off in ticket prices of some trains, Railways have sent the draft to Railway Minister for final approval of dilution of the flexi-fare scheme which was introduced in the year 2016.
“The Railway Board has sent the final recommendations on a Flexi-fare scheme to the minister, a final clearance is now awaited.” said a Railway official
“There are more than hundred trains on which the flexi-fare scheme is applicable. The recommendations that have gone to the Railway Minister suggest that scheme is removed from some trains,
while on others some modifications are made,” he added.
This scheme will be removed from 40 trains whereas scheme will be diluted in around 102 trains, this will give a huge relief to the Railway passengers.
Recently CAG even slammed the Railways for its scheme as travelers opted for airlines as the rates comparatively were cheaper than the rail rates. Commuters even shifted to Mail/Express trains rather than Flexi-fare scheme treated trains.
CAG had recommended the Railways to implement scheme only at seasonal sessions rather than the entire season.
No doubt Railways have generated huge profit from the scheme, however gradually the trains relevantly running with Flexi-fare scheme started running with less occupancy.
Railways decision of diluting the scheme which will cut off the ticket prices and will be a huge relief for the passengers.

Premium train passengers account for only 0.35% of the passengers carried by the Railways a year, their share in passenger revenues is 13-14%, Railway Ministry officials had reportedly said. . this 13-14 % figure is when most of flexifare seats are not being sold sold. If all flexifare seats are sold out, this % may go above 20%.

Instead of killing this golden egg (profitable premium trains) by imposing flexi-fares, IR should try to bring more and more paxs on these trains and earn much higher revenue/profit by
(1) Dropping flexifare altogether
(2) augmenting coaches in these trains
(3) rationalising the destination/composition/timing/stops of these trains,
increasing frequency as per requirement
(5) introducing new trains from non capital destinations as per requirement,
(6) Introduction of more SL LHB coaches which in general have high occupancy in premium trains his shall help run all the premium trains with max rake length which means more paxs carried and higher revenue for IR.
(7) If at all increase is required, then it is better to increase base fare to 120% of ME fares instead of current 115% for all seats/berths rather than by going into the proposed complicated arrangenment.

Will 12259/60 be also considered given that its occupancy is very low. I strongly doubt given that it plies on the extremely dense route between sdah and ndls

CMNR train will not change route, that is for sure. It's old train and SWR has to come up with additional rake, which looks difficult as of now. Small train option is there, but it all depends on two zone co-ordination. Even we have asked for extension of another link of this train Vsg-Hyb to Bidar, so that we can use that spare rake for Ubl exp, etc.

Yes its SR rake, but if SR accepts that proposal of extension to Hassan it can be done. There was some news doing rounds long time back to extend TPTY ICE till Hassan.
