Absolutely correct people will always prefer sleeper train compared to chair cars for longer distances of 890 kms. as till date no semi sleeper buses originate from Mangalore to Mumbai via Goa so if sleeper VBs are introduced in future then it shall be given on CSMT MAQ sector without fail.

Same time? Buses take 20 hours. VB will take less than 12. For a Udupi-Navi Mumbai traveller, that's less than 10 hours.

Lot of people from the Udupi region rely on Mangalore airport to reach Mumbai. That's an end to end journey time of 6 hours taking into account all the factors. A VB that does the journey in 10-12 hours will be a no brainer.

Buses don't take the Goa route because that would add more time to the already long 18-20 hours journey time via Yellapur-Belagavi. There's no other reason. We're talking about Mangalore/Udupi-Mumbai travelers here, going via Goa or not doesn't matter in this context.

The demands have been made not by railfans or rail activists but by passengers themselves. These are the ones who will utilise the service at the end of the day.

Mangaluru Mumbai is about 900km and VB will cost around Rs 2100-2200 in ACC and travel time 12hrs. The extended portion of 320km will take 4hrs.
Mangaluru to Mumbai now has 2 dedicated trains 12133/34 and Mastyagandha express. The fare in 2AC is Rs 2100 and 3AC Rs 1500.

to occupancy of the train 12134 Manguluru Cstm express they are 1.5 2AC and 4.5 3AC making 66 berths in 2AC and 288 berths in 3AC ( ICF rake)
Yesterday after charting they are 13 left in 3AC and 9 in 2AC at 1330 just before dep at 1400 with 275 berths and 57 berths occupied. Of these

Mangaluru to Udupi current available 213 and 56 so Mangaluru boarding 62 and 1 berth
Mangaluru to Karwar 115 and 34 so Udupi to Karwar boarding 100 and 22 and these are shared among 5 stops Udupi Kundapur Bynoor mookambika temple Kumta and Ankola combined.
Mangaluru to Madgaon 107 and 31 karwar boarding 8 and 3
Karnataka boarding with 7 stoppages is 170 in 3AC and 26 in 2AC.
In Matsyagandha exp they are 3 3AC and 2 AC making 192 and 46 berths karnataka boarding is 146 and 72 boarding as Mangaluru to Madgaon availability is 46 and 19

The above Figures are for night trains which is the preferred mode of travel for long distance and if a train like VB day intercity is introduced how many traveller will upgrade and new travellers will travel is a question as the combined capacity of 370 berths doesn't cross a 8 coach VB with 530 capacity.

There is no point of running 2 8 coach VB parallelly for 570km and of both VB are combined to form 16 coach then 8 coaches will run empty after Madgaon as the boarding Madgaon is 100 -150 during weekdays making it a loss making traon even extended to Mumbai. The route selection Mangaluru to Madgaon is itself a wrong decision as previously Intercity is converted to passenger type train
