All my life I have followed one rule while traveling in Indian Railways that to never allow passengers whose seat is not there to place their luggage under my seat. I have got into fights regarding this. Today I feel vindicated after the bomb blast on board SBC GHY Express. Never ever allow anyone unknown to you place their luggage under your seat. No need to feel guilty as your life is more precious. I started following this after a bad incident happened in late 80's on board GT Express. A guy who boarded in Agra kept 20 leather shoes under my seat and disappeared. Late at night some cops came and started questioning me regarding the consignment. They harassed me a lot . Nowadays I don't allow anyone to place their luggage under my seat even it is a 80 year old lady.

this is wierd. obviously i will not allow anyone to keep luggage under or near my berth if they are sitting in some other bay or coach. but i will allow my co passenger sitting beside me if i have space below my seat. railway does not specify square inch of area for every onfirmed berth to keep luggage.

Of course no one is objecting to people sitting in the same bay as I have clearly mentioned in the starting line of the blog. Very often we see passengers from the next bay, wait listed passengers standing around etc., place their luggage under your seat which I object.

Railways already have policy for extra luggage but with time everything become lax.
Still the one who boards from midway station or comes late even at source often faces difficult situation due to luggage space grabbers but realy we have no clear cut solution of this.
Often passenger travel with jumbo suitcases in AC and big drums in SL.

And as best security consideration luggage kept under front berth is more safe as passenger can keep eye on luggage.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
