Utkal Divas also called Orissa day is celebrated on 1st April in Odisha in the memory of the formation of the state as a separate province on 1 April, 1936. This is major state level day for Orissa. Now with the changes in name of Odhisa to Orissa, it is also called ad Orissa day.
Orissa was formed after after a long struggle of around 350 years. The last Hindu ruler of the Odhisa was Mukunda Dev. Utkal Sammilani lead by Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, Pandit Nilakantha Das, Bhubanananda Das and many others played a key role in the formation of Odhisa state.
