This food tip is based on my second experience with this train from Kulem to Pune. On our first expedition, we carried home made food and hence didn't taste the pantry food.
Biryani:
We ordered Veg Biryani and Egg Biryani from Meals on Wheels vendors.
Myself being a vegetarian had the Veg one while my friends had non-veg ones. The Biryani was one...
more... of the worst items I have ever had on a train. The rice was half cooked and it was tasteless. Same was the case with Egg Biryani with the same tasteless rice with Egg added. The Veg Biryani and Egg biryani cost Rs. 80 and Rs. 90 respectively.
Some other food items like Veg Pulav, Chow Mein and Veg Lunch are available from the same vendors but after this horrible experience, I couldn't risk trying.
Tea:
The Dip Tea served by Meals On Wheels is good and ask for a biscuit packet(Digestive Marie) if they don't serve it.
Ice Cream:
The Ice-Cream they sell is from a company called Anmul, the exact duplicate of Amul.
What to have?
Bhel: The train reaches Londa Jn by 6.40pm where you get yummy Bhel. The Bhel costs Rs.20 per plate and is totally worth it. I myself had two plates of it.
Chapati Bhaaji: The train reaches Belgavi by 7.45 pm where you get really tasty Chapati- Bhaji. The cost is Rs 30 per plate in which you get 3 Chapati's and a plate of bhaaji. We ordered one plate to taste and it was yummy. Before we could order more, the train departed from the station and to our dismay, we were forced to have the Biryani from Meals on Wheels. The train halts at Belgavi for a mere 5 mins, hence try to make it quick.
Final Tip: Carry your own food if you can and never order from Meals on Wheels on this train.
Pic: Yeah, that's veg biryani!!!
