Please check what I have said again. I mentioned it may not be 'officially' called a junction. You definition of junction is perfectly right. But in railway terms, usually the station which controls the signaling and points at the junction area has the 'junction' tag in the station name. This is usually the case in and around large cities and major stations.
For example, in Bangalore, KJM/BAND/CSDR are all technically junctions, but they do not have it in the station name. Similarly, in Chennai, Washermanpet/VSJ and one of MSB/MSF are technically junctions, but none of them have the 'junction' name in the station as the signaling is controlled centrally from Basin Bridge (BBQ).

more... Similarly many major junctions have bypass lines and a secondary station to serve the bypassing trains, but these secondary stations are rarely called junctions as in most cases, the main station controls the signaling. It is just an additional level of terminology the railway uses.
