Train overshoots Platform!! Accident averted!! Crazy Motorman makes a major mistake in dense fog!!
Video link: click here
The impact of Global Warming can be clearly understood from this video. Generally we expect thick fog during the winter months. But on a warm and humid October morning (With temperature well above 25 degrees), a thick blanket of fog engulfed SER. The change in climate and weather pattern is a serious concern.
Anyways,

Birshibpur station was brimming with office goers on this particular Monday morning pretty as expected, and nothing was non-ordinary. A galloping EMU bound for Howrah had just crossed the station just a minute ago, and the next halting EMU was expected soon. Although the signal post was non visible, I was pretty sure that the signal would have been red (Given that the last EMU had just passed), and the next EMU would come crawling to the station. But out of sheer madness, the EMU came rushing through the tracks at quite a pace, jumped the "EMU STOP" board, overshot the platform, and yet didn't bother to halt. Finally, either the emergency brake was applied, or the chain was pulled, and somehow the train came to a grinding halt with more than two coaches dangling out of the platform limits.
The motor man was then forced to reverse the train back to the platform (Still he did not reverse all the way till "EMU STOP"), and finally left a minutes later after a round of heated yelling and accusation were done by the passengers.
Well, I am not sure why the motor man decided to run the train at such a speed considering the next signal was red. Or why he missed the halt at the station. Maybe he missed the signal, or maybe the fog blindfolded him regarding the platform limits. But whatever might it be, one can clearly say that an inch more of an error, and an accident was waiting to happen.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
