Kolkata: In an attempt to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, a total lockdown will be enforced in West Bengal on September 7, 11 and 12, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Wednesday. The state will see complete lockdown on August 27 and 31.
In order to stem the coronavirus pandemic, the Trinamool Congress government enforced strict lockdown measures on selected dates in the month of August. The administration implemented shutdowns every week since July 23 to break the chain of the deadly contagious virus.
While addressing the press, Banerjee said that coronavirus situation has improved in some areas in Bengal, however, some parts have also witnessed a surge in the number of cases. The West Bengal said her government doesn't want to take any risk and is extending the bi-weekly lockdown till September 20.
During the lockdown dates, all the public and private transport will remain shut. Only chemist shops, milk outlets and petrol pumps will be kept out of the purview of the lockdown. On the lockdown days, the administration allows only home delivery of food and the restaurants are barred from sale over the counter.
The educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities will remain closed till September 20, the West Bengal CM announced.
On the above-mentioned lockdown dates, all government and private offices, commercial establishments, public and private transport will remain closed.
