While Gondia-Jabalpur is the shortcut line, it has major problem of being a single line and it being in the jurisdiction of SECR, which is infamous for running maximum freights and ignoring passenger demands.
If you consider the Balharshah-Gondia-Jabalpur line, while it is a shortcut for South India to UP/Bihar, the problem lies with Nagpur. While this line can decongest Nagpur, it is also a big city with major patronage from trains running there. Shifting trains to this line will create a major disconnect and can cause problems with passengers.
