I went to Digha once by taking an EMU from KGP for Panskura and then an EMU from there to Digha. But boy, the Digha section has so much demand and much lower capacity for running trains. The train was more full than a Bombay local during peak times. I couldn't even get onto the train. Fortunately, I was traveling with my Mum and somehow she took me into the ladies coach [which was also, somewhat full of men ; policemen could hardly supervise such a crowd] where I was standing for the rest of the journey.

more... your best bet is just to get a cab/bus since that would be a much less harrowing journey. Also, stay a night in Digha since the night time ambience is quite good. I had to return at night, so could barely enjoy much of it. The beaches of Digha were slightly more rocky/bumpy than that of Puri though.
I returned via a reserved train, so that was atleast much more comfortable.
please wait...Translate to HindiMaine Digha ek baar gaya tha by taking an EMU from KGP for Panskura and fir vahan se Digha ke liye ek aur EMU liya. Par bhai, Digha section mein itni demand hai aur trains chalane ke liye itni kam capacity hai. Train peak times mein Bombay local se bhi zyada bhari thi. Main train mein tak nahi pahuncha. Khushi ki baat yeh thi ki main apni Maa ke saath safar kar raha tha aur kisi tarah unhone mujhe ladies coach mein le gaye [jo ki kuch had tak mardo se bhara hua tha; police wale aise bheed ko mushkil se nazar rakh paye] jahan main baaki safar mein khada reh gaya.
Toh tera best option yeh hai ki cab/bus lele kyunki woh bohot hi kam stressful safar hoga. Aur Digha mein ek raat ruk ja kyunki raat ka mahol kaafi accha hota hai. Mujhe raat ko lautna pada, isliye main uska zyada maza nahi le paya. Digha ki beaches Puri ke beaches se thodi zyada rocky/bumpy thi.
Main reserved train se laut aaya, toh woh kam se kam zyada comfortable tha.
