if your train is coming at 2230, you will still need abt apprx 30 mts (this includes walk from train in platform, cross bridge, cross parking area and go to Ginger --another 15 mts for checkin procedures which leaves you with approx. 6 hrs to do the same work.) Its better to stay put at the railway retiring room for upper class, where the rush will be less.
My point is staying in Ginger will not leave you refreshed, since you have to take a train again next morning. if you further postpone your train journey, you can book in Ginger. else better is retiring room. Pl do not go to paharganj etc as going to the hotel, looking at rooms...

Well, u hav to physically present to book into retiring room.
For 5 member, u can reserve one doublebed room in ginger (if u hav small kids), as accomodation isnt guaranteed @ station & u may end into non AC-Rooms!!
Ginger is attached & is towards ajmeri gat terminus!!

After going thru all the disscussions i finally decided to prepone our delhi stay. We booked our DDN shatabdi tkts for 13th oct. Initially we planned our delhi stay from 16th oct.
Now our itinerary is like this....

Sir, you can book GINGER at "www.railtourismindia.com/cgi-bin/dev1.dll/irctc/booking/ in advance, as it remains fully packed always on two counts. First its proximity to Railway Station and secondly low room tarrif, though carrying a TATA tag. [It is the cheapest model of Ginger Hotels].
