Ganesh. Ashtavinayak Yatra is a pilgrimage to 8 Ganesha temples in Maharashtra, in a pre defined sequence. Its a circuitry pilgrimage in which temple visited first is visited again after pilgrimage. All these murtis are Swayambhu means not created by human, all were found completely formed by nature.

1. Moreshwar Temple, Morgaon: Mayureshwar located at Morgaon taluk, Pune distt is 1st temple to visit during yatra. Mayureshwar means Lord of peacock. Lord Ganesh is riding over peacock and has fair complexion with Snake as crown.
Nearest stn: Jejuri: 15km, Nira 23km. Major Railhead: Pune.

4. Varadvinayak, Mahad taluk, Raigad district: Varadvinayak, the Giver of Beauty and success, is idol of Ganpati, having constant oil lamp since 1892. Its the only temple where devotees r allowed to pay homage to idol, in immediate vicinity of idol.
Nearest Railway Station: Khopoli 6kms and Karjat 24kms.

6. Shri Girijatmaj, Lenyadri, Pune: Girija means Parvati and Atmaj means Son. Hence Girijatmaj means Parvati's son. The temple stands in 8th cave in complex of 18 caves. The temple is carved out of a single stone hill. Idol faces north and has to be worshipped from rear of temple.
Nearest Station: Talegaon.

7. Vighneshwar, Ozar, Pune: Lord Ganesh killed the demon Vighna coz of demon's last wish that his name should be taken before Ganesha's name, Vinayak became famous as Vighneshwar or Vighnahar. The temple faces east with very thick stone walls. The Ganesha's idol has left trunk with rubies on eyes. Diamond is on forehead, and some jewel on navel. The temple top is golden.
Ozhar can be reached thru bus from Pune or Nasik Road station.

Mahaganpati, Ranjangaon, Pune: Lord Shiva is believed to have worshipped Ganesha before fighting with demon Tripurasura here. The idol faces the east, seated over lotus in cross legged position with a broad forehead. Temple is situated at the centre of Rajangaon.

Maharashtrian culture has so much affection and devotion towards Ashtavinayak that Ist stanza of Marathi Wedding's Manglashtak is of names of Ashtavinayak only:
