About The Trains-
• These trains would be the fastest in India when introduced.
• Railways is reportedly planning to roll out two Train 18 by August this year.
• Train 18 would replace Shatabdi trains, While Train 20 will take place of Rajdhani trains in a phase-wise manner, Sudhansu Mani, GM, ICF, said.
• Train 20 is likely to be rolled out on tracks by 2020.
Trial Runs-
• During trial runs the two trains clocked 176 kmph (kilometer per hour) speed.
• However, they will run at a maximum speed of 170 km per hour when commercial operations start.
• Currently, Gatiman Express is the fastest train in the India, with maximum speed of 160 kmph.
• The trains will be propelled by 6 motor coaches which would help in faster acceleration.
World-Class Trains-
• The upcoming high-speed trains will be equipped with world-class features.
• The steel coaches will be fitted with hi-tech passenger amenities such as LED TV screens, GPS, diffuse lighting system.
• Apart from many safety features, the set of trains will have ‘Automatic Plug-Type’ doors which will open and close automatically at the stations.
• The toilets of these coaches will be fitted with zero discharge vacuum based bio-toilets.
Cost-
• The high-speed trains, being developed under the ‘Make in India’ programme, at half the import cost.
• One Train 18 coach will cost Rs 2.50 crore.
• A Train 20 coach will cost around Rs 5.50 crore.
