Useful
I am adding 50 pairs of routes for proposed Vande Bharat Sleeper trains across India, these routes are chosen based on the IRI feedback and imaginary trains, existing traffic, etc. The distance between the two stations, via route stations (2 of them), the current fastest train duration is given for each route.

Also proposed the duration for the VB sleeper in hours and the average speed to be run by VB sleeper in that route. For example, Mumbai - New Delhi distance is 1386 km, run via BRC and KOTA, current
...
fastest train Tejas rajdhani takes 15h40m. The proposed time for VB sleeper is 13 hrs, and average speed of VB sleeper train at 106.62 kmph.

Each of the VB sleeper will have 3 to maximum of 5 intermittent stoppages irrespective of the distance travelling, to achieve average speed of 80 to 90 kmph.

The following 100 routes (50 pairs of VB sleeper trains) proposed.

SWR does not introduce any special train from Bangalore to Mumbai or Hubli to Mumbai, because of bus lobby. I agree. But SR can introduce a train via RU, GTL, Solapur from southern cities including Chennai, to LTT easily as SF trains and clear the summer rush. The initiative depends on the zones, which want to earn much needed revenue too. Even if the special trains are not given permission, one can propose running Clone trains and augment capacity.. The platforms at CSMT are being remodelled to accommodate 22 to 24 coach trains, so SR and SWR can increase the number of coaches in existing trains also.

SWR

can easily operate SF trains in LTT - Bangalore in 18 hours given the slack time and reducing intermittent stops.

All Garibrath trains with 3E class and 20 coaches with a total capacity of 1600 shall be operated on at least 20 high density routes on daily basis. Like ANVT - Bhagalpur, Anvt - patna, etc. All garibrath can be converted to daily trains to improve passenger services and clearing waitlist passengers. The per passenger km fare to be increased to 1.2 rupees so that it can be self sustaining for Indian Railways

Too many stops and made it like a passenger or mail. For VB, minimum average speed must be 80 kmph and all VBs in future to stick to this rule. The number of intermediate stops could be rationalised to achieve that average speed. Otherwise, ICE is better option or Jan Satabdhi.

I remember a lot of people used to mention how Sleeper and General class were loss makers and needed to be terminated as a whole.

What do y'all think about this? Loss making VBs. Some times ago I also made a post about how useless Bhopal - Indore VB was and Sampoorna Kranti's unreserved class was making more revenue than that of Bhopal - Indore VB.
...

Clearly, Indian Railways and the Government are also at fault for Railway's loss making nature and not just some exclusive classes like SL or GS.

Comparison of the two decades old Satabdhi btw Ndls and Bhopal, Four decade old Bengaluru Rajdhani with one year old VB (NDLS - Bhopal I presume), and comparing economics is too premature. Benefits from VB: (1) Around 102 VB services added 1 lakh AC seats for Indian travellers. (2) Instead of travelling overnight, one can return by night or reach by afternoon, this saves hotel stay for biz travellers (3) VB trains on an average occupancy of even at 70 percent will be a good start. (4) We are used to travel with waiting lists, booking 3 months before train travel, etc and VB gives an option to book with confirmation now for next day travel in most sectors (5) Suppose another 150 VB services are introduced, which will eliminate waitlist at least for medium distance travel by March 2025. (6) Indian Railways says they lose 55 percent in passenger travel...
as per 2017-18 data, but passenger services are giving revenue of 80000 crores in current financial year 2024-25, compared to 50,000 crores in 2017-18, and obviously the losses from passenger services are down from 50,000 crores in 2017-18 to around 20,000 crores in current financial year. (7) Introduction of VBs definitely decreased the stress on the long distance trains mainly in AC 2 and 3 tier classes and made them available for long distance travellers

I agree with the point that SL and GS are not the only classes for all IR losses. I hv done lot of analysis on different classes of travel. VB revenue will definitely bring some fillip to IR revenues, in short run and in long run will get transformed to one of the mode of travel. Politicians are unable to rationalise fares in SL and GS, suburban trains. Hope the fares will get to actual cost levels in next 5 years
