Should be done. For 50kms more if it gets 50-70 pax regularly then it's a win.

Missing out many important intermediate halts won't work i think.
What was the distance criteria specified for VM? Because it looks that they are planning to run for 300 - 400 kms than stated. Ig it was around 100-200 kms?
What matters is service. If 400km route performs good then it should get VM Intercity type. While they can also run on a 100km route 3-4 trips a day.

Tamilnadu & Kerala have lot of 10 lakh+ cities with around 100 kms gap from each. A single route covers many of them. Then the per capita income, industrialization, tourism are there to boost.
Wait for opening of Pamban bridge. VBs will be introduced to RMM from many cities

Yes, Jaipur - Lucknow is a very good route. There are 4 tier 2 cities in the route. Jaipur, Agra tourism hubs. Can easily fill a 8 coacher VB. JP - AF - CNB - LKO, Bharatpur or Etawah can be added.
Forget about HWH-BSP. Both SER & SECR won't give a tight TT & duration will end up being more than 9hrs. The best solution is:
Sambalpur - Howrah VB
In ROU - PURI VB, Odisha cluster Sambalpur, Jharsuguda & Rourkela give 100+ boardings daily. So add minimum 250 from these 3 for Howrah. CKP can give 20. TATA 100 around. Also, Odisha cluster to Tata will be a bonus. People now hating Ispat for delay.
