A total of 2824 Kms (including Up &Down Lines)over South Central Railway Zone is now fit to run at 130 Kmph speed
Posted On: 09 JAN 2021 5:53PM by PIB Delhi
Indian Railway has started the New Year by achieving a landmark achievement by drastically enhancing the maximum speed to 130 kmph for 1,280 km length out of 1,612 Km in Golden Quadrilateral - Golden Diagonal (GQ-GD) route. This covers the entire GQ-GD route over South Central Railway, except Vijayawada - Duvvada section, where signaling up-gradation work is in progress.
...

The enhanced speed limits could be achieved due to the systematic and planned strengthening of track & its infrastructure by removing bottlenecks in these sections on a fast pace. This included heavier rails, laying of 260 meters Long welded rail panels, improvement of curves and gradients among others.

Railways has utilized the opportunity of the Lockdown period and low train movement last year (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) to complete all necessary infrastructure up-gradation works. Based on these improvements done by the Zone, the RDSO/Lucknow conducted oscillation trials through Confirmatory Oscillograph Car Run (COCR) consisting of instrumented coaches of all classes at 130 Kmph speed during July and October last year. During this check, in addition to track parameters, other areas like Signaling aspect, Traction distribution equipment, Locomotive& coach fitness were also checked and recorded.

Accordingly, the South Central Railway zone has received sanction to enhance the maximum speed limits to 130 kmph along the following routes:

1. Golden Diagonal (Grand Trunk) Route: 744 Route Km

i. Ballarshah to Kazipet – 234 Rkm

ii. Kazipet-Vijayawada-Gudur – 510 Rkm

2. Golden Quadrilateral Route (Chennai -Mumbai section): 536 Route Km

i. Renigunta to Gooty - 281 Rkm

ii. Gooty to Wadi - 255Rkm

Already, the maximum speed limits in the High-Density Network (HDN) between Secunderabad – Kazipet (132 Kms distance) had been enhanced to 130 kmph.

As such, including both the Up and Down lines in these sections, a total of 2,824 kms (1412Rkms)has now been made fit to run at a speed of 130 kmph. This covers the entire GQ-GD route over SCR, except Vijayawada - Duvvada section, where signaling up-gradation work is in progress.

It is noteworthy that despite COVID pandemic, Indian Railways has witnessed an unprecedented growth in development of infrastructure, innovation, capacity expansion of network, freight diversification. Railways has used covid challenge as an opportunity to lay the foundation for future development and next level of traveling experience for passengers.

This experience will serve the nation well, he added. "This Sunday, that is...

Jan 02 2020 (09:04)   PANVEL TO BE THE NEW RAILWAY HUB; 11 PAIRS OF PRIVATE TRAINS TO BE OPERATED FROM PANVEL TERMINUS.

Panvel will be the new railway hub of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
is planning to run 150 on 100 routes across the country. Of these, 11 pairs of trains either originate from or terminate at Panvel. Indian Railways is also considering to operate two pairs of private trains from the proposed new at Parel and three pairs from Bandra terminus, including the one that will originate from Akola.
A senior officer of Railway Board told Mirror on Wednesday, “All these identified routes are subject to completion of infrastructure-related works, including

the proposed .”
Panvel station was originally opened as a rail freight transport in 1962, for limited service to . Regular commuter service began in 1964 for passengers headed to Khopoli. At present, upgradation of Panvel terminus is underway.
According to a official, construction of three more platforms is underway and will be completed in the next 18 months. Besides, construction of a new maintenance depot at Kalamboli is also going on. This will serve the Panvel terminus.
When asked why Panvel was preferred over stations in Mumbai for being the hub for private trains, a senior officer said the suburban section of Mumbai is saturated, so the railways decided to introduce more trains from Panvel terminus. The terminus is growing at a fast speed in terms of passenger traffic, he said.
In addition to this, the railways was looking for routes that would cause minimum disturbance to the traffic on .
These trains will be plying according to the revenue-sharing model, which is preferred by the government for being less controversial than the profit-sharing model, the officer said.
Bids for running the private trains will be invited in the next two weeks. As per the plan, the trains will be operational by 2023.
The railway officials say that the addition of these trains will enhance the status of Indian Railways. The unions, however, claim that the move will only end the national transporter’s monopoly, at least to the extent of running trains.
The trains to be run by the private operators will offer world-class technology and services to passengers to improve their journey experience, according to the Indian Railways’ plan.
The Railway Board, the apex decision- making body of Indian Railways, in October formed an empowered group of secretaries to define the modalities of the bidding process and take decisions to award projects in a time-bound manner. The move will ultimately permit private companies to operate 150 passenger trains.
According to the plan, the infrastructure, maintenance, operations and safety will be handled by Indian Railways. Private train operators can take trains on lease and provide better on-board experience and services to the passengers, in terms of food, comfort, and entertainment.
A formal announcement about the plan is yet to be made.
To get experience of managing the idea of trains run by private operators, the tourism and catering arm of the national transporter, (), launched the state-of-the-art high-speed Tejas Express between Delhi and Lucknow in October 2019.
The second such train is all set to be flagged-off on January 17. It will run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
