reviewed the infrastructure development department, found that of the nine railway projects cleared since 2007 at least four have seen their total cost go up from Rs 4,446 crore to Rs 8,683 crore - a 95% increase.
“There's been a huge escalation in cost. It burdens both the Centre and state. So, we have decided to expedite the projects,” Somanna said. “In the next 15-20 days, the government will resolve issues with land acquisition and other bottlenecks,” he said.
According to Somanna, the cost of the Tumakuru-Rayadurg line has gone up from Rs 479 crore to Rs 2,432 crore, Ginigera-Raichur from Rs 1,350 crore to Rs 2,565 crore, Bagalkot-Kudachi from Rs 816 crore to Rs 1,525 crore and Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere from Rs 1,801 crore to Rs 2,161 crore.
Another railway line connecting Dharwad and Belagavi is still in the works.
Karnataka has a 50% share in the cost of these projects.
During the review, the minister took stock of 56 pending overbridges and underbridges (ROB/RUB). “They are also languishing in Bengaluru, Tumakuru and other places. We have decided to give some shape to this. We’re releasing our share (of funds). Once the Centre releases its share soon...minor land-related issues that were being used as an excuse for the delay (will be resolved). The delay has made citizens feel disgusted,” Somanna said.
“We want to finish all these projects in this financial year as much as possible. We will review them once every month,” he said.
The state government is holding talks with Indian Railways authorities. “They were being laggard. We have sent across whatever message we had to and work will speed up from tomorrow,” he said.
Work on new airports at Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Hassan, Raichur and Karwar are on track, the minister said. “The Shivamogga airport will be commissioned before 2022,” he said.

(Three days a week) (Spl.) is running with one rake of WC Rly. Board have approved running of daily services   that requires two rakes having primary maintenance at REWA.
 
The extension of 11039/11040 (KOP - G – KOP) Maharashtra Exp. by merging the services of 01753/01754 REWA – ITR Exp. Spl. will have daily service between REWA & Kolhapur via Nagpur.

Advantages:-
A)     for Central Railway:
Lie-over & maintenance at KOP shall be eliminated.
Maharashtra Express can be augmented from 18 coaches to 22 coaches.
 
B)     for South East Central Railway:
Lie-over of 12 hours each at Gondia (11039/11040) & at Itwari (01753/01754) shall be eliminated
 
C)     for West Central Railway:
Direct connectivity of Rewa-Gondia area to many stations including Nagpur & Pune.
 
D)     for Indian railway
Two rakes costing 100 Cr. will be saved.
One Locomotive costing 20 Cr. will be saved.
 
Requirements:-
1)      Four LHB rakes to WCR .
2)      WAP7 HOG loco shall be provided by WCR.
3)      Primary maintenance shall be done at Rewa as  is done for 01753/01754 so that it can run upto KOP on RBPC.
4)      70% Quota to be defined between REWA – NGP & NGP - KOP to protect the interest of existing passengers.

Railway is all set to roll out the much-awaited 'AC Economy' class. The air-conditioned Economy class is a new class of train travel in India. As many as 27 coaches, specifically designed for the new class of railway travel, have been distributed in various zones of the Indian Railways.

The 'AC Economy' class coaches will be sported by the Duronto trains under Western Railway and other trains from several parts of the country. Instead of 72 berths, as in the AC III-tier coaches, AC Economy coaches will have 83 berths, reported The Indian Express.

Speculations On The Fare

The Railway Board is yet to decide on the fare for these special coaches. Some within the railway believe the price should be fixed within reach of those who usually buy non-AC 'sleeper' class tickets. Another argument that has come up is that the ticket should be priced close to the AC III-tier, which is the entry-level AC travel option for long-distance trains at present. According to officials, the decision on the fare of the new AC economy class has been hanging since May, and the Railway Ministry will take a formal decision soon.

Over a decade ago, the 'AC Economy' coaches were launched in the Garib Rath trains. However, it had merely inserted more berths just to fit more passengers in a coach. This led to passengers complaining of discomfort. This time, though, the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, has stepped away from the existing design imprint of AC coaches and resigned the coaches for this particular class of train travel.

The New Design

The air-conditioning in the coaches is redesigned in a way that it provides individual vents to each berth. The coaches come with foldable snack tables in longitudinal and transverse bays, improved and modular design of seats and berths, injury-free spaces, and holders for water bottles, magazines and mobile phones. The redesigned coaches will also include individual reading lights and cell-phone charging points in each berth, adding to the standard sockets. The new AC Economic class could be called the '3E' class in reservation paperwork as per the reports.

may be recalled that in a gazette notification, the SWR said it does not require the land of the farmers in Curchorem and Cacora for executing the special railway project of doubling the lines between Hospet-Tinaighat and Vasco-da-Gama.
Instead, it listed a proposal to acquire other pieces of land in Curchorem, Cacora, Davorlim, Velsao, Cansaulim and Arossim for the project, inviting objections within 30 days.
The SWR proposal has upset the civil society members who have now threatened to launch another agitation if people's voices are suppressed and their views bulldozed.
The people said they had high expectations that the State and the Central governments would listen to pleas against the double tracking project. However, the Indian Railways has withdrawn the acquisition of land in Curchorem and Cacora which was undertaken in December last year.
The Civil society members from Goa, who have been fighting tooth and nail against the three linear projects, said they were shocked and annoyed with the proposal.
Abhijeet Prabhudessai of Goyant Kollso Naka (GKN) said, "We totally condemn the proposal to acquire more land. The transportation of coal is not only against the wishes of Goans but also a threat to the very existence of humanity. If our government fails to drop this plan then our future generation will hold it responsible for the mass extinction of various species and endangering the lives of our children. GKN will fight to stop this.”
Olencio Simões of Goencho Ekvott (GE) and Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) said, “It is very clear that the National Security Act (NSA) order has been implemented in South Goa during monsoon to undertake such works. Our people including the panchayats are firm on opposing the double tracking. We are against the existing land acquisition done for the purpose of double tracking and the new proposal has been placed recently.” 
“This project is against the interest and wishes of the people and if the government goes ahead, the people will teach it a lesson in the upcoming elections. We will take to the streets if need be," he warned.
Orville Dourado Rodrigues, VACAD founder member said, “Since 2008, the people from the villages in the South Goa’s coastal belt have been protesting the land acquisition for the double tracking. Central and State governments are going ahead with this project neglecting people's views. They must understand that people, panchayats and civil society members will fight tooth and nail. We will come on the streets if need be.” 
Rodrigues accused the government of systematically using its machinery to sabotage the movement and voices of the people against this project. He warned that the people won’t bow down and instead seek legal remedy if required.
“The government has no spine to take a stand and work as per the wishes of the people. Is the government trying to “sell” Goa to the central agencies? Half of Goa's area has come under Central agencies such as MPT, defence forces etc, what more the government wants to do," Swapnesh Sherlekar of Goencho Avaaz Party questioned. 
“This government is totally incompetent. Due to various mega projects much of the land has gone to the Central agencies. How can new land acquisition be allowed when the people have agitated against the existing land acquisition process," Sherlekar asked.
Cansaulim sarpanch Jose Maria Furtado said, “I was taken aback with the new land acquisition in Cansaulim and Velsao areas. The panchayat will support the people and will oppose the double tracking project.”
Expressing similar views, Velsao sarpanch Henrique D'Mello said, “People have agitated, opposed and even took to the streets opposing the double tracking and land acquisition. The panchayat will continue to remain with the villagers come what may.”

पीलीभीत। हिन्दुस्तान संवादइज्जतनगर मंडल के अंतर्गत बरेली सिटी-पीलीभीत रेलखंड के विद्युतीकरण रेल पथ का इम्तिहान 21 फरवरी को होगा। मुख्य संरक्षा आयुक्त 21 फरवरी को विद्युतीकृत रेलखंड का निरीक्षण करेंगे। इस संबंध में डीआरएम को आदेश प्राप्त हो गया है। वहीं डीआरएम बुधवार को पीलीभीत सेक्शन में निरीक्षण कर सकते हैं। पीलीभीत जंक्शन से बरेली सिटी तक 55 किलोमीटर तक रेलखंड के विद्युतीकरण का कार्य रेल विकास निगम लिमिटेड और कल्पतरु पॉवर ट्रांसमीशन लिमिटेड ने पूरा किया। विद्युतीकरण कार्य पूरा होने के बाद सौ किलोमीटर की रफ्तार से इलेक्ट्रिक लोको दौड़ाया गया, जो सफल रहा। इसके बाद पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे के कई अधिकारियों ने स्टेशन पर विद्युतीकरण कार्य का बारीकी से निरीक्षण कर रिपोर्ट सौंपी। इसके बाद भारत सरकार के नागर विमानन मंत्रालय के रेल संरक्षा आयोग उत्तर पूर्व परिमंडल ने बरेली सिटी-पीलीभीत जंक्शन विद्युतीकृत रेलखंड के सीआरएस की तिथि 21 फरवरी को घोषित कर दी है। आदेश में कहा गया है...
