This will keep on getting extended. With safety being top priority, it is highly doubtful on speeding up trains. Instead railways will still continue to run trains with heavy slack time as always.

There used to be rly timetable changes twice a year, w.e.f first of April and October.
Then it was decided to go for annual changes in TT w.e.f. 1st july and the logic given was the ease of switching over to new timings as it is lean season.
