5 lakh. Touting activity increases significantly during summer holidays and festival seasons.A month ago CR started a dedicated WhatsApp helpline for passengers (9987645301) who were getting fleeced by touts. The decision to install the screens was taken after the helpline received 27 complaints from travellers.“Apart from flashing pictures of repeat offenders on the screens at all reservation centres, we have set strong guidelines, especially when it comes to tatkal quota tickets,” one CR official said. “Clear instructions have been given to all booking staff that if someone comes repeatedly for tatkal tickets, of if they suspect someone of being a tout, they should report that person immediately.”The authorities also made it clear that any unauthorised persons or “nuisance elements” should be immediately reported to the Railway Protection Force and action should be taken under the Railway Act.“We want to spread awareness among our esteemed commuters in all possible ways. We want them to have hassle-free journeys. At the same time we request them to buy tickets only from authorised sources to avoid inconvenience,” said Sunil Udasi, chief public relations officer, CR.
