Visakhapatnam: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to set up a movie theatre
inside the station complex, exclusively for railway passengers. Passenger with a valid railway ticket can watch a film at the theatre at Rs 50 per person.
“The theatre is likely to be thrown open to the public in the first week of June. This is the first-of-its-kind facility at any railway

in the country,” G Sunil Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager of the Waltair division told TOI.
Earlier, as a part of the fortnight long ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ Pakhwara programme in September 2018, such an arrangement was made at a few stations across the country, including the Secunderabad station. “But, this is for the first time, a railway station in the country would have such a facility on a permanent basis,” said a senior railway official.
The railways have roped in New Delhi-based mobile digital movie theatre company, PictureTime DigiPlex, to setup the 1,800 square feet theatre hall. “The company would set up an inflated air
conditioned theatre structure made of fire-proof material. It will have a capacity of 120-150 seats. Movies would be screened
from 6 am to 10 pm every day,” the official added.
Officials said, for the past few years Indian Railways is aiming at a ‘non-fare revenue model’ and this project has been taken up
keeping with it.
“There are a few other projects in place that help us generate revenue. We hope this project will be popular among railway
passengers,” said a senior railway official.
